The Roland exhibits a distinctly brighter timbre, characterized by a cleaner sound that integrates more effectively with compositions incorporating digital recordings and electronic instruments. In contrast, Keyscape produces a more subdued and vintage tone, evoking a sense of nostalgia reminiscent of older pianos. However, this does not necessarily imply superiority over Roland. Keyscape’s tonal qualities make it well-suited for recordings involving acoustic instruments. In my view, for projects focused on digital recordings or film scores, Roland would be the optimal choice.

Keyscape sounds darker because it uses a denoise filter (eq) but has superior reverbs. You can also find very bright keyscape patches in the plugin.

I am happy using software and hardware. I mean, I don’t think a plugin really replaces a good analog synth, specially vintage synths or modern synths like Prophet 5 rev 4. But for acoustic sounds, sound libraries are way better in general, except for some sounds like Nord organs, or Yamaha electric pianos which could be as good as them.

I use both live. I think Roland responds better but not if you are trying to play really softly. RD 2000 has now unlimited polyphony for the German piano sound and the low end and the string resonance is really good. You can tweak Keyscape to have a soft/fast feel but you need a fast computer and a quality MIDI controller. I think Keyscape is the most convenient.

As those old school reports would say, Korg "Must try harder". I bought this two weeks ago. Wanted to love it as it had much going for it - in particular that 1.3 update promised - finally - chord progression editing - but the way editing has been implemented is just very rushed and limited - didnt even allow you to select a chord in the "leadsheet" and automatically then allow you to edit it. Instead - just a very poorly implemented list editor. And there are so many user interface quirks not to mention bugs - in the end i had to return it. This is still an unfinished work in progress. The 5x is an arranger keyboard, no deep sound design. Only minor changes and layering can be done. The true usefulness of an arranger keyboard depends on if you use it as a toy or as a song writing tool. As a toy, any arranger is good for playing to a backing band. For the creative, the writers, the arranger must have a limitless style creator. It is the power of the style creator that makes an arranger a professional keyboard or a toy. 99% of buyers never learn how to build their own styles from a blank program, these arrangers don't need to be anything more than a toy. Next, the style creation you just made needs the option of sending out up to 8 tracks over the MIDI output to synthesizers that can truly sound design. Without full sound design the arranger will soon become a keyboard only capable of making a few songs, then you run out of sounds that sound unique to each song you write. And all keyboard have the ability to make at least one stellar great sounding patch, but again, the true power is in how many for your genre you can get out and actually use in your next song composition.

@@rolandv-piano Because I bought a Roland E-A7 that will do all I need and never need upgrading, or the cost of upgrades, never will corrupt, and never will have to re-learn how to use it. Muscle memory will be ultra-fast in getting tasks completed, and the efficiency and speed of using my hands over a mouse is never going to be eclipsed. Then the complete and total pleasure of using hardware over a clumbsy interface to a computer makes the writing of music a complete joy, instead of a complete burden and chore. If you only compose a few songs every few years, then a computer would be fine, probably. But when you are at this every day, the difference in my life was: Computer = no songs. All hardware studio, no computer = over 70 albums of music over the last 10 years. IF you want to build a song like a brick layer, blocks of music on a screen assembled into a song, use a computer. IF you are a master of your instruments (keyboard) then play in your songs with all the skill and passion your experience has given you. One song will sound like a robot on a computer, the other song will be free, innovative, original, and beautifully humanly expressive.
