Several singers can match Ferrier vocally in this music but for me, personally, after hearing this recording, since my formative years, no artist in this music quite affects or moves me more emotionally than ˋKlever Kaff´as she is so fondly remembered. She had been smoking since her early years & I am almost certain it contributed to the cancer that took her from those of us who will cherish her artistry & spirit forever.

Wonderful rendition. I think Reger clearly quotes Brahms' Geistliches Wiegenlied here

Schade, dass die Operette nicht so populär ist. Und sehr schade, dass so ein Ausnahme Sänger nicht mehr lebt

Much better than the revised version from 1861 that leads directly over to the first act.

In their time these were, IMO, 2 of the best singers for these roles that I can imagine. Price retired relatively early but is still sorely missed for her art & generosity to this day. Bruson, as I write this is 88 & hopefully still healthy & perhaps doing some teaching. He had one of the most beautiful dark but lyrically bel canto baritone voices in his prime & was, IMO, second to none among his baritone operatic contemporaries for his masterful stylistic attributes. He was an artist that, I believe, Verdi would have greatly admired especially for the latter virtues mentioned here.

Listening to this makes me realise, rather belatedly, that Heifetz was influenced by Elman (and perhaps vice versa) - not surprising, I guess, but interesting.
