Great stuff I have one but it’s really wacky to use the hot shoe. Is this a setting it should not be this complicated to hook up a transiever for studio strobe work. It’s like the computer fights me all the time even in manual. Help! I love Pentax but for af film I’ll go Nikon f5 if I have to even though I’m heavy into Pentax digital full frame glass

I owned a PZ-1 for my trip to Europe in 1997. I really liked it then. I have completely converted to Nikons since (both 35mm and digital). I have several Nikon bodies and lenses. Watching this video brought back memories but, in all honesty, I couldn't go back to using a PZ-1 anymore, it operates way too differently than Nikons. I would be fiddling with it all the time, trying to figure out how to use it. I still think the PZ-1 was a great camera for those people uninitiated to either Canon or Nikon (which I was at the time). The power zoom feature was a bit gimmicky though. Thankfully Pentax had made provisions for an override of the powerzoom. I remember loving how my photographs came out differently than those of my friend's Nikon f801s at the time. I'd say the Pentax lenses made the pictures come out with the blacks more dark. I remember thinking that those lenses would have been ideal for shooting a film noir. Never tried B&W film in the PZ-1 however. I probably should have ...

09/2021 UPDATE: I just bought a mint Z-1 from a vendor in Japan. It's looking like I'm gonna shoot some B&W film with the Pentax Z-1 after all. :). After watching this video, I think I can get used to the inverse controls again.

08/2022: recently aquired a used 28-105 f4-5.6 SMC Pentax lens with the powerzoom feature. The powerzoom worked until I set the zoom ring to manual mode. It never worked again with the zoon ring set to powerzoom, not sure why?...

One of my first cameras. Best one I’ve ever used to be honest.

I just picked one of these cameras up for $30 bucks with 2 manual zoom lenses, half a dozen rolls of film, and a nice bag. First time I've shot, or owned, a film camera in almost 20 years. These instructional type videos are kind of dated, but very informative. Thanks for posting.

Feb 18 2017 just received a like new PZ -1p ($50+$12 shipping) great camera. It is possible to get Mirror Lockup by using the 2 sec self-timer delay. Press shutter button, mirror goes up then 2 sec later shutter takes picture. Great for tripod use to minimize camera shake. (This is pointed out in the video around minute 18.) .... Camera fits hand beautifully.

This is one of the best cameras ever made, and still my favorite! It was my first auto-zoom SLR.
