Sounds great Mike! I just your treatment of the single note. Once saw PJ Proby do this during an inebriated visit to Sydney. The poor "used to be" forgot the words & just sang “Maria” over and over again. At one point an audience member said “what’s her name”.
@MikeNeer2 күн бұрын
I remember him from Focus! But I had no idea he had a hit with Maria. He must have been crazy drunk to forget those words.

PJ was an alcoholic wreck. A friend has written a book about the “tour” which had to be abandoned. He still had this amazing voice but that was all. Love your “thinking outside the box” use of the E-Bow.

This should be the theme for Chiller Theater with Chilly Billy Cardille. Interesting how the whole nature of this piece changes in your arrangement. Very cool.

Hello again Mike. Do you listen to Hank Mobley at all? I recently found out that some of his signature phrases lay very comfortably on E9 with pedals down. A world of possibilities opened for me!

That was gorgeous. The swing in the beat takes it to another level.❤

Beautiful. I also thought of making a rendition of this beautiful tune on lap steel. But because you have to tune the lapsteel to a mystery tuning, without breaking strings i never got into it. Just a thought, maybe, if you play the melody a hole octave down on the lapsteel it has a more dramatic vibe, especially the piece where the piano speeds up on the A#minor, what do you think? Thanks.

This is great Mike. A pretty overlooked technique. I am currently working on transcribing Au Privave by Charlie Parker on E9 pedalsteel, so i will try to apply this technique in that context. More videos like this would be amazing!

Very cool stuff mike . FYI: for the next one, you might want to bring your vocal mic up a bit in the mix. It was a challenge to hear you sometimes.

Here’s E7 in the 5 CAGED forms: E7 form at open from low E to high E, 022130; D7 form, XX2434; C7 form, 076750; A7 form, 079797; G7 form, 12-11-999-10; and E7 form again at the octave, 12-14-14-13-15-12. - Learn to play Mixolydian + the Blues scale at those 5 CAGED positions (1-b3/3-4-b5-5-6-b7, E-F#-G/G#-A-B-C#-D). Always know both the name and interval number of the note that you’re playing. - Now do this for the other 4 CAGED keys.

Many years ago I discovered a thing called The Amazing Slow-downer by Roni. This will slow music down as much as you wish without losing key or tone. I was in the Walt Disney World Cast Choir and used this wonderful download to learn how to sing "The Hallelujah Chorus." I'm going to use it to learn this song, too. I make no money from Roni. I am merely an amateur muscian offering some good advice. I plaly in E tuning, but will now learn a new tuning.

As far as I know, pedal steel volume pedals completely cuts the sound in the closed position, from where that iconic steel-swell sound comes from. But with some palm benders, there is certainly potential. Great video as always!
