You’ll usually only notice detonation on hard acceleration. Also more prevalent in lower altitude and temperature where the air is denser. Since the piston is simply compressing more air. Not a bad idea to bump up a fuel grade if you ride at sea level. But I personally haven’t noticed an issue with 87 on my DRZ.
@matthewbooboo81702 сағат бұрын
Octane is more about the fuels resistance to detonation with high heat. Compression usually has nothing to do with it. An aircraft lycoming O-360 has a compression ratio 8.5:1, much less than your 400cc but requires 100 octane because its a hot running aircooled motor. If the manual says 87, you will not gain any advantage of higher octane

So does it mean you can use 93 for every bike or just some bikes can take 93?

you should try a zx4r i’m curious how much different it would feel from the ninja 400
@Dralexina6 сағат бұрын
I was originally looking at a zx4r, but I'm not 100% on a higher payment right now, especially with my first bike, so now I'm looking at a ninja 500. That zx4r really calls to me, though.

The I4 on the 4R and 4RR sound amazing but as I'm sure you're aware require a ECU flash, at least in the US, to get the full power. They do look great too. And to make power they need to be turned pretty hard. Money to burn? Get the 4R or RR. Otherwise a used 400 is probably the best bet to learn on (followed by the 500). Save some money for gear, etc and in a couple years you can sell the 400 to help finance the upgrade when you are more experienced. Just my .02

You didn't include maintenance such as tires tune-ups clutches chains/belts oil changes and you're going to need definitely more than one set of gear.. Get yourself a good camera. And look at getting a second bike because riding one little crotch rockets long distance sucks..

Well, you're out of luck then. Try Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki one. You can never go wrong with the japanese bikes. Honda, CBR500 is good. Suzuki GSX series, or hayabusa is pretty good. Yamaha R3, MT-7, MT-9, MT-10 are all pretty decent. Consider different options or buy a used ninja. I got my ninja 650. But i rarely use it. I like using Suzuki and Yamaha more. I got my gf an R15 (basically small engine R3 with only 155cc or 150cc.) Still ride very good. Just not the type 1-60 instantly. She doesn't even use it much since she's very short, so i ended up using it going to work. So basically a "fake" motorcycle is the one i use the most. It's basically a big motorcycle outer with a scooter engine.

Now is it bad for the engine if it is rated for high octane, but you use normal gas?
@LadyMaria_AstralClocktowerКүн бұрын
It's going to cause damage
@davidyoung3543Күн бұрын
From the Googlewebs... "Regular gas is bad for high-octane vehicles because it has a lower octane rating, which means it is more prone to premature ignition, causing "knocking" in the engine that can lead to reduced performance and potential engine damage, especially in high-compression engines often found in performance cars that require premium fuel with a higher octane rating to function properly." What he said. More from the Googlewebs... "Preignition damages an engine by causing an uncontrolled, extremely rapid combustion of the air-fuel mixture before the spark plug fires, generating extreme pressure spikes that can physically damage components like pistons, valves, and spark plugs, often leading to catastrophic engine failure if left unchecked; essentially, the sudden intense pressure wave can melt or fracture parts within the combustion chamber due to the extreme heat generated. " Don't hurt your bike with the wrong fuel.
@cosmic7234Күн бұрын
most modern cars (not just sports cars and bikes) can take advantage of higher octane fuel thanks to VVT. Especially cause nowadays everything has a turbocharged 4 cylinder. the difference is pretty minimal though for those cars

I say go with the manual says. But for a bike the gas tank isn't as large as a car. It doesn't hurt to use premium.
@Justins18772 күн бұрын
Premium gas in a ninja 400/500 is a waste of money. The engine isn’t tuned for anything above 87. It’s your money though. 🤷♂️

When buying your first bike its a great guideline to save $1k for a good helm, a decent jacket, gloves and boots. You will upgrade as you go but dont buy the absolute most priced gear until you know what kind of riding you're really into. I will never wear a full-suit. I dont ride that way so its not needed. I have armoured high-tops. Gloves. Armoured pants. Lv1 back armor. Riding jacket and of course a helm. This way i can move around when im not on the bike.
