Royal Concert Hall ? Not in Liverpool mate Do you mean Liverpool Royal Court Theatre ? I saw them at the Liverpool Empire, Lime Street in 1978 or 1979 - they were a support band back then touring their debut album - supporting Magazine ( I think, but could have been supporting Elvis Costello, I can’t remember. I went to see both around this time & Simple Minds were the support for one of them. Too many years ago & way too many gigs !) I was a massive Magazine fan and had gone to see them at the Empire and Simple Minds were the support - very good - I became a fan I’m guessing your recording was at Liverpool Royal Court - this theatre was used prolifically throughout the 80’s & 90’s as a concert venue/ gig venue. I’m from Liverpool and that was my era and I’ve never heard of “Liverpool Royal Concert Hall”

my first gig on my own, managed years later to get a mp3 bootleg of it, ironically i was on the same coach as the bloke who cassette recorded it for the local record shop. those were the days when you had to buy "under the counter" copies at the local record shop! great times

Took a friend to the gig. He's not a fan of the band but a fan of music. After Love Song and The American I was explaining to him how rare it was for the band to preform more than 1 song from the early albums at a gig. Then when Premonition came on I went off on one. I actually started recording at the beginning but my phone stopped for some reason. Had to start again. When I told my mate the song was from 79 he couldn't believe it. Then This Fear Is God's started. I fucking lost it. Again I was telling my mate that all 4 were from the early albums and I was hoping they were going to do Today I Died Again. Them song made my night.

It always surprises people who only know Simple Minds from the mid 80s to find out how haunting and inspirational their first 5 LPs were ( still are). Hey, hundreds of thousands love them for their 'epic' stadium fillers and that's fine too...My favourite LPs are Sons And Fascination and Sister Feelings Call...

My guess is that Mick was playing the Charlie fiddle bit on keyboards for this live version as he was playing the guitar bit and couldn't do both. Could be wrong though...
