Cousin got the cassette with the NME. So this was where I found Green. This version was always subtly the best one. Just so dreamy

Sadly this band would be labeled as groomers for making this song today. Meanwhile Steve Tyler and the dude from Red Hot Chili Peppers can get away with having a 19 year old girlfriend and no one says shit.

It’s just magnificent. Both versions. All that D minor and incomplete chords, aping the Good/The Bad/The Ugly theme and finally with the immortal Isaac Asimov single line to finish.

The amount of money spent on producing this song almost bankrupt Rough Trade, on top of it the song flopped and even though it was the beginning of Scritti Politti's venture into a more commercial direction, it also played as the catalyst for the label abandoning their laissez-faire approach in regards to putting out bands no one else wanted to record (the Raincoats, the Fall, Pere Ubu, Red Krayola... etc.) and start looking for some hits to stay afloat. No surprise that not long after this they signed the Smiths.

Richard Hell posted this song a few days after Verlaine died. The two of them never patched things up, but Hell still loved him. Once upon a time they were true friends.

this performance kicks ass. much better than the studio version they tracked years later. I'd probably trade a year of my life to go back in time and be at this backyard party - I'm so glad that it was videotaped with a couple of cameras for posterity. the sound quality is actually quite good

Listen up, you kids. This is how Big Dogs do rock’n’roll. If it hurts, it’s supposed to. Don’t go whining to your mommies. Yes, listen and learn.

Fascinating stuff to this day. I had a copy of "C81" back in the day, and even now I find it to be a fascinating document of a complex period of flux in pop music. Interesting organ on this, btw...I always wondered if Green Gartside had been lurking around, as it sounds a lot like what one hears on Scritti Politti's "Sweetest Girl". Or was Robert lurking around the Scrits? Doesn't matter...this is still ultracool.

I danced like crazy to this song in 1981. My friends' bands covered it. My boyfriend's bands covered it. I saw Iggy do it. I covered "Not Right" instead. But I never saw the Embarrassment cover it, until tonight. Fun is fun, no matter how delayed it be. All aboard!

Not sure where their persons ended up, but know for fact their music enhanced blood of America's youth coast-to-coast, cuz I was all over the place w/my own bands, awa w/the old man's, & took it w/me everywhere I went! Initially discovered The Embarrassment E.P. at record con in Pittsburgh, PA 1981-82. Toted home to Crazy House, Morgantown, WV, indoctinating all who mattered & then some, incl. hangers-on (no wild dentists, but did have mad scientist in crew for similar effect). 1984, Embos tunes accompanied me to L.A. 1992, onward to NorCal, where I re-upped their CD collection. Today, offspring & I proudly showcase them in our digital libraries, awa taking CD's along for road trips. Still dancin' too, & not one wrong song in the bunch!
