When disconnecting the hose from the customer cylinder, shouldn’t the valve on the main cylinder also be shut? Otherwise I can’t release any residual gas in the hose because it will just continue flowing? Or am I missing something

knocking works, if you want to be properly accurate you can put scales under... 2L per KG approximately, weigh the tank empty and weigh it full, record those numbers. You can knock on the tank, the change in tone is approximately where the gas is and a hollow echo means it's bone dry (no duh)
