Ok advice, but “you learn nothing from winning”? So when you catch all those fish, you learned nothing? You didn’t learn the right rig, in the right location, at the right tides? The best advice I’ve been given is that you either win or learn…you only “lose” when you fail to learn.

Might have missed a post about this but why did you cutoff the tag? You are supposed to record the number and report that and the fish metrics to SCDNR and release with tag attached to the fish. Unless, of course, you harvest. Cutting off the tag prevents future catch, data recording, and release. Makes no sense what you did.
@LowCountryFishing2 күн бұрын
@@Spatchcock2 Great question and thanks for asking. I decided to remove the tag because it was causing a deformed spot on the belly of the fish. Down the road, this could create a possible route for infection that could harm the fish or disrupt reproduction. I see these deformities a lot on the older tagged fish. So when I come across this, I pull the tag. I also tag fish for GADNR and want to ensure we are able to collect data whenever possible but at the end of the day it’s more important to ensure these fish live a healthy life. I hope this now makes sense.
@Spatchcock22 күн бұрын
@ thanks for the clarification. I thought it was strange to remove the tag, but makes much more sense now. Thanks again.

How do you know what to set your drag at for setting the hook like that? Do you just stick a hook in something before hand and just yank it to test out if you need to tighten or loosen your drag?
@LowCountryFishing14 күн бұрын
@@Pickle312 man I’ve been fishing for 20+ years. It’s just something that comes naturally. You have to lose a couple fish to understand what’s the limit between breaking off and pulling in a big fish. There are ways to test drag at home on drag measuring tools but I don’t use them.

I have two 7' 6" falcon coastal xg rods. One has a shimano baitrunner 3500, the other is okuma 40A bait feeder. Both have either 15 or 20 lbs. braid to 30 lbs florocarbon. What i like about those two combos is i can take them anywhere and anyone can use them. They are like swiss army fishing rods. You can cast little shrimp or pin fish or any really light bait quite far in salt water or throw lures. Next day you can be bass fishing with shiners or artificial all with the same combo.
