Also I'd say, whilst autoresolving is an inevitable and necessary part of the total war experience, the strategy map isn't actually compelling, so bigger fights are a treat for a viewer. We've all been in the steamroll phase of the campaign but I think that makes it important to play what dramatic battles you'll get. There was one in this episode, so no complaints, but I think it's just one of those differences between making a campaign to be watched and to be played, you gotta get the battles in, for the views :D
@hawkwardonline9478
@hawkwardonline9478 Ай бұрын
Yeah I'll admit auto-resolving is a bad habit for me when recording, just hard to get a balance between moving the campaign along and getting some varied battles. I'll have to recruit some different army comps maybe

For any future campaigns, is there any chance of uploading it at a higher resolution or bitrate? It's fine to watch on my phone when I'm winding down for sleep but, not so great on my main PC monitor. It's not a deal breaker I mean I'm 41 episodes in but if you can change it, it wouldn't hurt!

Owch, a painful battle. Not gloating, had one of them lately in my own campaign where my katana samurai got held up all battle long on yari and bow samurai. Last time I underestimate the effect on hills and forest in shogun 2. I was Obviously spoiled by the more lenient terrain of recent total wars. Still, the other battles went more your way :)

I wonder if 14 provinces causing realm divide is a function of it being a short campaign, or whether you've just had too many famous victories (though it seems odd that any realistically achievable amount of victories could equal 6 provinces) I've been playing my own tokugawa campaign (also inspired by toranaga) and I was able to get to 21 territories on domination campaign length before it hit me with realm divide. It's been really fun to watch you having to go about the same campaign in a similar but very different way as a result of this changed circumstance :)
@hawkwardonline9478
@hawkwardonline9478 2 ай бұрын
It actually is, as I discuss in a later ep. Essentially short campaigns give more fame per province than domination, so you could argue domination is easier as you can control more of Japan before realm divide. Thanks for watching, glad you're enjoying it :)

Got a mate in Texas to base it off haha. Yeah, good to remember that the AI still acts like a player in some ways, if they have armies, they'll attack, if they lose armies, they'll back off. People like to criticize it but there are times when the diplomatic interactions make sense. And then others where the Shoni declare war on you from the other side of Japan for no reason...

"keep one strong ally"... I have not a clue how to keep an ally! I just assume that they will ALWAYS betray me. They betray me when they are strong AND when they are weak. I suppose it's because I never pay attention to my Daimyo's repute? I will look forward to how you try to accomplish this feat.
@hawkwardonline9478
@hawkwardonline9478 2 ай бұрын
Yeah it's still mysterious to me but I think: not betraying/acquiring diplo penalties wherever possible, marriages, trade deals, military access, avoiding taking territory that is a victory condition when playing as that faction. If you share a border, keep it garrisoned so they don't see an opportunity for a capture. I suspect it might be easier to maintain an alliance with minor factions too

It seems odd that Ieyasu is only a child. I wonder how long the Devs intended a game to last? Perhaps it was not expected that a player could expand and succeed so quickly?
@hawkwardonline9478
@hawkwardonline9478 2 ай бұрын
@thomashazlewood4658 I think they've had to bend history a bit to get a lot of main characters on the map at once but a domination campaign has a time limit of 1600 so Ieyasu would be well into adulthood for that

I did a search for this: Blessing of Amaterasu- If your daimyo has the summer son trait you get that bonus each summer season. Summer Son- Re: How-to: The Summer Son Achievement 1) Find two enemies near each other 2) sabotage one so that it can't reinforce the other 3) attack the unsabotaged one and make sure enough escape to fight again 4) attack the sabotaged one 5) attack the survivors of the first stack Remember that your daimyo can leave his stack and be reinforced by it. That 1) gives you more move to play with and 2) induces the enemy to fight when it would otherwise flee. dont forget to end turn after the 3 battles or you wont get the achievement. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- have a 3* ambush daimyo (night abttles) find 3 armies close to each other attack with daimyo, use night battles to make sure he don't fight all 3 at once. ================================================================== All of these are from the TWC forum.

Once, playing as the Mori, I made a vassal early on who stayed loyal through the Divide to the game's end. That was the only time I ever saw such loyalty.

@thomashazlewood4658 I didn't know that was possible, how'd you pull it off?
@thomashazlewood4658
@thomashazlewood4658 2 ай бұрын
@@hawkwardonline9478 Perhaps it has to do with being the Mori? As I said, that's the one time I've ever seen that happen. The vassal was one of the clans near the Mori, although I don't recall precisely which it was. It could be that being in the vicinity of Mori armies operating in that area for the long time it took to conquer all the provinces discouraged betrayal, or maybe the Mori reputation was that good? That area would be very oppressive to a small clan, being surrounded on all sides by enemies. You know how well the clans get along...heh. Having a large protector might be concluded as the best alternative, even to the AI.

I would also be pleased to watch you play Battle Brothers (You asked!...heh) Napoleon TW might be interesting, just to see how you handle the battles. For world-building, 'Manor Lords' is interesting for the real problems of building a sustainable society. For battle, though, it presently is not at all polished. "the Old Gramps"? lol... Like you, I have a long experience with wargaming. Remember 'Tactics II'? That was the first one I owned. In this one, I find Shimazu and Oda are the easiest to play. Oda makes good cash and cheap troops, Shimazu has geography and trade working for it. The Rome TW games are too easy. You reach a point, quickly, where you have no resistance until you attack the Eastern empires. Tokugawa is a bit harder- no real advantages for them. I wrote this a long time ago- 'Wind fells blossoms, rain fells steel, but bamboo bends, and drinks...
@hawkwardonline9478
@hawkwardonline9478 2 ай бұрын
Ah great, that's a lot to think about for other games to play. Been debating if I should wait for Manor Lords to develop more. And Battle Brothers is always fun though not sure I could record a campaign, too many end suddenly in defeat... Yeah for sure, Oda are easily the best IMO, making the best value units in the game even better and cheaper is like cheat codes. And agree with you about Rome, easy to spread quickly. That's actually great, should get a mod to add it into a loading screen haha
