Cheap solar panels now have an efficiency of over 20%. I wander if it makes sense to just use those and install a DC resistance element in the hot water cylinder.

Hi Benjamin. What do you think of heating a (electric) hot tub using solar vacuum tubes and instead of a complicated glycol system with risks of overheating the glycol etc... just heating the water directly and implementing a drainback system that returns the water to the tub and evacuates water from the collector? I'm in Canada, so freeze prevention is important, but low maintenance is also key.

Great Vid : I have purchased a home that has a glycol heat exchange drain back system about 20 years old. The system runs when power is applied and seems to work, it reached about 140 degrees and shuts off after a while it starts again when temp is about 100 degrees. The problem is it is not connected to the hot water tank all pipping has been cut off not sure why ? I am attempting to hook it back up and this vid is great for this process. I have been told that a gas water heater may be the reason for the disconnection ? any help would be appreciated.

I have been to most of the fairs events. I was disappointed with last year's. It seems like MREA has lost or forgotten some of its core values. There used to be a wide variety of seminars and demonstrations on sustainable living, gardening, small livestock, and food preservation. It also had a lot of beginner seminars on solar and wind. But now the fair seems to have moved to training of solar professionals only, and political issues regarding solar. You pretty much dropped wind power presentations as well.

Well to make it less complicated: Lets not Tax oil, Lets just stop some of the subsidies! Maybe give some help to little companies coming up with great new ideas to save water time and money by flushing the toilet. . . ECO HOT valve. It's not a check valve. . . But you should Check it out !

Thanks so much. Very well done. On the air purge valves. After a couple of weeks when you think the air is gone are you closing them to prevent pressure loss? My system doesn’t have a water makeup supply, it’s just a simple garage floor heat. Do you lose pressure over time?

Cold climate heat pumps have a coefficient of performance of about 2.5 which means they are 3 to 5 times more efficient than an average 95% efficient gas furnace. That being said they use more electricity because they don't use any gas. Great overview by Matt Ferrell at kzbin.info/www/bejne/fmTNeoWIr6tpmpI

Informative review. Some takeaways. Distributed Energy holds the promise of offering more affordable, more resilient and more equitable energy and pointed to a study from -[Vibrant?] Biden's IRA holds much potential. Policy is only as good as implementation and the focus on tax credits benefits more affluent Americans while leaving many people out. States like Rhode Island are using Biden's IRA for "Solar for All" Transitioning to a Clean Energy Future is facing strong headwinds from "business as usual" approaches. Need Cooperation and competition. What businesses can those who value the vision of the energy democracy support in 2023 to assist a wide spread and inclusive transition?
