I did pimsleur spanish all five levels and I can say that until the ending of level 4 I knew what seemed to be random tourist phrasebook stuff but when I reached the second half of level 5 I had enough vocabulary that everything started to click and I became able to make sentences by scratch. I think all languages in this method are built over the same pattern and I hope I will experience the same when I reach the last level of pimsleur mandarin.

Wow, thank you for this, this makes me tap into my faith and what it teaches: that although there WILL be times we won’t be perfect or meet our very own standards, it doesn’t all of a sudden define us. Especially since in those moments we tend to forget the better parts of our lives and who Jesus has made us to be and instead only think of our mistakes. But there is a calm, a sweet knowing that it’s all okay. It really is. We’ll meet our goal someday if it wasn’t today and we can’t beat ourselves up for it. Instead we should think on the good things about language learning that we’ve experienced and are living through. That’s what we should think about

You can get great language audio input here on youtube with bilingual stories, they will read a sentence of a story in English then read the same sentence in target language. Polyglot Beats on youtube does that well for multiple languages and there other channels for specific languages... its been helping me get passive listening and learning when going on walks... time is by FAR hardest obstacle in language learning - anything that can get us some passive learning is a plus! 😊😊

There is plenty of channels devoted only to learning through a story in various target languages. One simply has to type in " learn X language through a story" written in their target language. I listen to them in French, Italian, Spanish and German.

These are some exciting goals! 🎉 How are you gonna squeeze in 3 months in Jordan and 3 levels of Turkish into one year though? 😮
@agatastaniak745920 күн бұрын
I supose she will have to evaluate her goals as time goes by. Reality is intense focus per year works for 2-3 languages that someone knows well and even in such case it may be very time-consuming to reach such annual goals. It's better to have a system of putting intense focus langauges one by one on rotation using 3 months long intervals in between intense for exams training sessions. Surely depends on the person, method and resources but if you compare real life experience of various polyglots this is what works in real life, especially for working adults or working and studying people.
@languagetraveladoptee11 күн бұрын
Will definitely be evaluating as I go, I can assume how things will work out but most likely things will have already changed halfway through the year goals wise (as they always have). I've never done such an ambitious language year like this since school, so it will be interesting to see if I keep gravitating towards my original plan, or how I adjust it!
