Played this game as a kid in the 80s. This song, wizards, the colours and sound effects reached deep within my soul.

It's really great to see professionals opinions of old tunes we used to love in our childhood, even when they were very limited due to tecnical reasons, as you mentioned. However the C64 had some really awesome capabilities and that shows even today. It's the only system I know of that continues to have remixes/renditions of old tunes that are absolutely stunning and they touch your soul musically. Pretty much like Charles Cornell very technical take on some old tunes I think you should anaylize and react to some beloved C64 tunes of old, they do deserve it. I can suggest works from Hubbard, Tel, Follin and many others. Roboocop, Hawkeye, Cybernoid 2, Stormlord, Thrust, Comic Bakery, Last Ninja, oh so many... It warms my heart everytime I hear a new rendition of a C64 tune that I knew as a kid and by then I knew it was great, take Supremacy that you just reacted to: Metal version: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gInTnHeVZ82fY6s Modern take: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aXu0nIpsd8yIj7c Another modern take: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bYGYnmqlgtmAp9U Also sometimes really good musicians make covers that really sound like magic, please check Reyn Ouwehand's versions of Wizball or Stormlord... Or Machinae Supremacy verion of Ginna Sisters... how not to love it? Great flashback! Keep it up!!

Pretty sure in "High above the land" some of those parts with the drums are supposed to sound almost like a propeller spinning, since the level takes place in airships and such

One of the best NES Soundtracks ever. It's remarkable how that got that sound out of a NES cartridge.

I'd say that hard in a playful way sums up Plok well, honestly - Even down to if your ammo being your limbs meaning if you ran out you were a torso hopping along the ground with all the clumsiness in movement that sounds like.

I designed/coded this game. Tim & Geoff were a joy to work with on this. The title track would make more sense with the visuals.

Nice to see Geoff getting a mention. Tim often gets the sole credit (not his fault). Hi from Plok co-designer!

It was very interesting to see your first impression on the music, as alot of people I know are already aware and have an existing opinion on it. So seeing yours was very entertaining! have you checked out more of the music after recording because if so I'd be very interested to hear how you felt!

2 tracks for this game were composed by Manami Matsumae who composed both Mega Man 1 and 2. A Thousand Leagues Below and Flowers of Antimony, these 2 were actually my favorites even before knowing she was the one who made them. I guess nostalgia don't lie ^^

I'd love to know what you think of "Battlezone: Rise of the Black Dogs" on the Nintendo 64; it's a port of the 1998 FPS/RTS hybrid released on PC and I have a soft spot for that music because while it sounds tinny and lo-fi, the melodies themselves are pretty great and the instrumentalisation lends the melodies an eerie tone that the original PC version doesn't have.

i listen such 8/16 bit tunes regularly. when my 9 years old son asks me "dad, what is playing in you speakers?" i give him an answer which i was dreaming about to pronounce for years: "this is timm folling, son. the best videogames composer ever lived on this planet"

Akrillic, to me, is a ridiculous song. I remember reading someone say to them it sounded like it belonged on a 1970's prog album by Emerson, Lake and Palmer or the Alan Parson's Project - and yeah I can hear it.

I'm surprised by you saying you couldn't find anything about the OST of the video, because searching for the game's title and OST after it links me directly to KZbin with all song names covered. Hell, even the Wiki lists them. I'm sure you had your reasons, but also for reaction purposes I think it's incredibly important NOT to research that stuff beforehand, so you get the actual first time impression and reaction out of it. Especially for this game's OST, which catches people off-guard, even more so when they know the songs. It's a huge hook for this game.

Late by about 2 years for this comment, but who here remembers The Maniacs Of Noise website from a few decades back where they (including Tel) had hundreds of xm mods mostly funky and Jazzy and wow that was my only music for maybe 3-4 years straight, and I still listen to a lot now. Found this late but thoroughly enjoyed your breakdown and head bops Sir! Thank you TTFB!
