Main issue I’ve seen with the lifters has nothing to do with MDS, but rather the oil pump not pushing enough volume at idle engine speeds so swapping in a high volume pump would be what I’d do.

A high pressure or high volume pump will not help the crank sling more oil...
@ReignitedAuto10 сағат бұрын
The camshaft on a gen 3 hemi does not receive oil solely from crankshaft splash. I have several videos showing the oil pathways through the engine that clarify this 👍

Would you say it could be beneficial to also upgrade the oil pan at the same time?
@ReignitedAuto20 сағат бұрын
I don't see any reason to do so no. The Hellcat vehicles use the same overall volume of oil in those engines, so it's not like you need any extra capacity. It might help oil temperatures, but I don't see much benefit past that. 👍
@Highspdlowdrag22 сағат бұрын
How does a high pressure pump fix a lifter/cam problem if its lubed by splash from the crank..
@ReignitedAuto20 сағат бұрын
Also it's a high volume pump, not high pressure. I discuss the difference in that video I linked as well. 👍

I have this issue, is it something detrimental to the truck or more of an annoyance? it doesn't really bother me for now.
@ReignitedAuto22 сағат бұрын
Primarily just an annoyance, but prolonged it can eventually cause your oxygen sensor to read lean on that side, meaning you will be running rich on that back and it can affect your gas mileage.

Great advice I have a 2013 ram 5.7 I did Change out the oil pump for the Hellcat oil pump, it took my rear seal. I think the reason it had 216k miles on it. I believe the seal was old couldn't handle the higher pressure.

Once you replace the oil pump... do you need to upgrade the software or adjust the software..?

If you put the stock pressure relief spring in the new pump no changes will need to be made to the software. 👍

I get this sentiment a lot from people, but I don't believe it to be true. Rather, I feel like it's a combination of negligence, stupidity and indifference that leads to these types of issues. Is it better or worse if it's intentional or just stupidity? 😄 What I have found throughout my years in the industry is that engineers will tend to design something that works pretty well, then the accountants get involved trying to get them to make something that's cheaper if a bit less reliable. This scenario usually seems to be the source of failed components.

Bro , I did this on my ‘13 Durango RT , but now Ive got a misfire on 2 and 3 and sometimes 5 . I already swapped around coil packs and that’s not a problem and I’ve got new plugs .Could I have over tightened something or what do you think, also it does it when I rev up then idle down and still sounds pretty chattery.

So ok you or they say 5% failure rate, what about all the people that don't realize their manifold tick is not really the case or they have both problems and are oblivious to the problem.. Also is the 5% only related to warranty claims? Is this counting all the failures after warranty?

Can someone answer me this mine is a 2012 ram 5.7 and I measured my pump (is the original pump)and it’s the same as the hellcat by pump at 16mm .630 only difference I see is the pressure release spring is about 3/16” tall than my pumps spring. Now wouldn’t that give it more pressure than volume? I have 170,000 miles on it.
@ReignitedAutoКүн бұрын
I've heard this from a couple people over the years, but I've never seen a non Hellcat pump gear that is 16mm thick. Would you be willing to send me photos of the pump and your measurement to [email protected] I'd love to see it. 👍

Why does my 2017 5.7 hemi tick and then completely stop ticking when I'm in mds mode ?
@ReignitedAutoКүн бұрын
Harmonics. Frequencies change based on a bunch of different factors. Think about if you have a dash rattle that goes away when you go slower or faster, or if you change gears. When the engine goes into MDS it drastically changes the vibrations inside the engine and can in fact mask noises.

Granted, I know this would use more gas. However, would having a high idle option be somewhat of a solution too? I know diesels are way different, but, I had a 2007 Ram with the Cummins in it that had the high idle option. You could turn the cruise on and hit the set button and it would kick the idling up a little. Not much, just enough to keep the oil flowing good and the alternator charging good. Just a thought. Great video though.

Yep, that would accomplish the same thing and I have heard of fleet companies doing this very thing. 👍

Tuner or not when you remove the 4 mds mods and put block off plates on then it is full time oilling lifter bore. No??????? Turn on or off but ant no mod there anyways at this point. It’s full time oil to all right?
@ReignitedAuto2 күн бұрын
That's correct but if you don't swap out the lifters to non MDS ones you'll constantly be in 4 cylinder mode since it's oil pressure in those bores that collapses them.

Hi Sky, sorry to bother you again. The parts store (Lordco) here in Vancouver,BC Canada does not have any idea of the Transmission temp sensor. they know about the Transmission sensor which is outside of the transmission. Do you happen to know the parts number? Thanks.
@ReignitedAuto3 күн бұрын
I'm not sure you're going to be able to get this part from a parts store. It might be a dealer only part since it's bolted directly to the valve body. The part itself is called the solenoid pack. The temp sensor is integral to this part, it's what the electrical connector on your transmission plugs into. I don't have any access to part numbers right now since I'm still off work due to injury.

That's the engine oil temp sensor, the trans temp sensor is in the solenoid pack on top of the valve body. Replace that and you should be good to go. May as well replace the trans filters while you're in there.

@ReignitedAuto3 күн бұрын
This is actually a fairly common issue with these older vehicles. You mentioned you replaced the sensor. The trans temp sensor is internal to the solenoid pack on top of the valve body is that what you replaced? If not, that's what you need to replace next. 👍

Just did this modification, 6.4 mds, long tube headers, dynotuned 400.5 horsepower at the wheels. Now for getting the performance out of it, get at least 3.73 gears, and at least a 3200 stall, 3800 better. Will post 1/4 mile times asap. Working out the shift points. But so far car has done 1.75 60 ft with air density at 2900

Great break down here man! I came across your video while searching for oil cooler, I’ve got a 2014 2500 with the 6.4 Hemi with 108k miles. My plan it to install a hellcat pump next. It’s a solid truck, I always drive with MDS off by gear limiting the trans. It works well. I also don’t let it idle, once the idle comes down after a cold start I leave the driveway as a way to keep it from idling for too long… thanks for making this video!

I just bought a 2016 ram 1500 5.7l with 95k, my lifters tick for 13-16 seconds on a cold start, is this indicating my hydraulic lifter is wearing out but not fully, and what should idle oil pressure be? going by what my dash tells me I'm around 55 psi.

@ReignitedAuto4 күн бұрын
Technically yes, but not without serious changes. The intake manifold won't fit, the accessories would have to be changed, and most importantly the crank trigger would have to be swapped from your original crankshaft to the new one so you'd have to completely disassemble both engines. There's a few other minor things that would have to be changed but those are the big items. It can be done, I've got a 2017 392 in my 05 magnum, but it's not a simple swap.
