This is amazing footage. Thank you for sharing it. I grew up in Asheville. I moved away a few years ago. I wish I had spent more time exploring the River Arts District. This was a labor of love by artists and dreamers. How vibrant and beautiful it was. And so quiet and serene on the day that you were there. I know that something beautiful will grow there again, but it won't be the same. That's very sad.
@walkingwithgreg6 күн бұрын
It was honestly the ideal day when I visited and I am counting my lucky stars. I too believe something beautiful will come back, possibly even better than before. If you'd like any of my footage for your own uses please let me know I'm happy to share and help spread awareness

My prayers are with Ashville! I really wanted to move there. But I'm unable too. I'm stuck in Florida and i hate it. God bless North Carolina, and all states! Please vote blue for our Democracy, not Trumps wanna be Autocracy! I love all you patriots! Be well, we can win! Make your vote count! Please join me & vote Blue! God Bless you all! Sure wish I could meet you, I'm now 77 years old. Oh yikes, I just didn't think I'd live this long! But I guess God n' angels have a reason why. If I had a partner, I'd certainly try to help. Be Blessed, always! Sending Prayers from North Central Florida.:))

You know oddly enough hete in Asheville and the greater WNC people stopped caring about red or blue. At the end of the day we're all american and it's up to US to make that change.... besides a vote for Kamala or a vote for Trump, either way you're voting on the uniparty, they both serve the same people/goals just through different avenues of approach

The River Arts District was really a special place. I'm an artist from Greensboro and visited there a couple of years ago. I was so inspired and impressed by this place and the artists who shared their work there. My heart is breaking for them and all who have suffered the devastating impact of this event. Much love to everyone there. Trying to figure out the best way to help them recover and move forward.😢❤

"Built in the 1900s", yeah time for new shacks. The average price of a home in North Carolina is between $330,820 and $402,870. Those shacks didnt look worth that in the first place.

Thanks Greg for your recording and also supplying donation sites. I live in Australia and know the calamity of a natural disaster is beyond belief. The need goes on for years, and following through by making a more personal connection means a lot. Prayerful thoughts to you and your community. Ruth 💕🙏🏾

Or just respect nature and don't build close to the waters. "Arts district"? Sounds like a bunch of wealthy northerners came in and ruined a beautiful southern town.

@@allysonmurray1731 Well I guess I forgot to say I live in Wyoming. And since I moved here with my family in 1974. The Big Thompson Canyon, in Colorado, highway 34 has flooded twice. The last time in 2013, and it also flooded two towns downriver. So I think I do understand. In point of fact, during the rebuilding of highway 34 they moved part of it higher up on the canyon wall. Mother Nature loves messing up people's lives.
@WhoopsADaisy7 күн бұрын
@@gpwcowboy I grew up there. My entire immediate family is still there. The artists and the dreamers took a bunch of empty dilapidated looking buildings and made it into a vibrant part of the Asheville experience. It wasn't built , it grew because they had a vision of what it could be. It has flooded before and they understand how to prepare for it. This was unprecedented flooding. You can't prepare for that.

Good question. I tend to base it off walks I've done before where I've stumbled upon stuff I liked. I do look at a map beforehand to try and improve the specific route, but also if I see something I like during the walk I don't feel like I have to strictly adhere to the plan either

I decided to keep watching. It wound up being a pleasant time. I enjoyed the hypnotic drum-like percussion of tromping feet. At first, once we got to the beach, I couldn't figure out if the structures on the poles were wind powered street lights, or bird houses. Then, I thought, maybe both. Birds are pretty ingenious when nesting. Later, I recognized them as Martin houses. These birds notoriously eat several times their weight DAILY in mosquitoes. Obviously, the park does not maintain uniformity of care-taking for all areas of the park. I could tell that my man was getting a bit tired about half-way. He chose the grass to staying on the path. All in all, a good time was had by all.
@walkingwithgreg4 ай бұрын
Haha, love this comment. Glad you ended up sticking around and enjoying it! I didn't know about those Martin houses until I saw them either, I love finding little things like this in between the busy busy. There's another earlier video I have (I believe my 2nd video even?) where I find two different little free libraries on a side street. Chicago has plenty of little surprises
