So, why didn't you show how you took the drivers side screw out? That screw head is below the actuator surface, which means you can't get a box or open end wrench on it. And even my 1/4" drive ratchet won't fit in there! Well, I got the right screw out and after not finding any good ideas anywhere and not wanting to wait for a week for an EZRED 4S12L slim wrench, I went back out and grabbed my flat pry bar and pried up till the plastic around the other screw cracked and broke off. Then after I got the screw out to put the actuator in, I couldn't get it back in. So it'll have to work with one tight screw and the door end post. But the at least the AC works out of the passenger vents now. I'm happy. Hope I never have to replace that again.

A breakthrough in this process with a 5.5 mm socket and a 11mm wrench with the socket wedged into the boxend to make the tool. My 03 suburban uses the 5.5mm screws instead of your 8mm so may not work with 8mm?? But my tools are craftsman 1/4 5.5mm socket and craftsman 11mm wrench. If a person had a ratcheting wrench that the socket would wedge into that would probably make the perfect tool..
@thomaswestbrook7468
@thomaswestbrook7468 6 ай бұрын
If you try this I only had a 5.5mm in a 6 point socket but believe a 12 point would make it alot easier landing on the points. Also used my 18 inch cheater pipe to use as a lever under the bottom of the dash steel and caught the stepped section of the air box and prayed gently upward to pull the airbox down for more room for wrenching. My part is 100% removed with this method hope I can replace the new part in reverse method. Hope this helped someone...

I'm guessing the 2500 is roomier than most Silverados, etc. I attempted this method with my Avalanche and there was no way. Fastest way to get this done without cutting the vent with a saws-all is to go ahead and remove the dash (not that bad a job - lots of videos out there), and then loosen the bolts holding the air vent in place. Take a long pry bar through the air bag hole and use the metal bracket for leverage to lift up the vent and you'll have plenty of clearance to do the work.

I used some electrical tape around my 5.5mm socket and put a 12mm ratcheting wrench tightly atound it as a special tool. There's still very minimal space, so half the time you need very strong fingers (both hands) to rotate the socket by squeezing from both sides until the screw is screwed in enough to force the whole tool on it. I also used my magnet pick up tool to help positiom the screws. I even tied a fishing string around the socket because i was afriad of dropping it. Once you drop the screws or your socket down the abyss, good luck. Overall, not fun at all can't say it is easy unless you have extremwly small hands

Hi, Today i started working on the replacement. As i could not remove the top screws of the airbag in a safe way not to loose them, i just removed the dash, as i have done this before couple of times, and its not such a big operation, but it gives you more free space and light to see what you are doing. So dash gone, airbag out, and i loosened up the two bolts of the subframe which holds the air/vent ducts in place. By doing so i was able to put a piece of wood between the frame and the air duct, lift it upwards, so this gave me about almost an inch more work space to free up these two screws......man what a terrible job....anyway, i got my hands in and was able to remove the two screws. I made a special tool for this as well, I had a 5,5mm socket (yes I am dutch so i measure in mm and km :-) and i was able to clamp an old wrench exactly around it, i used a hammer to do that. So this gave me a nice tool to move between the duct and the actuator to free up the second screw. once that was out it was easy to take out the actuator. Earlier I had a little bit an issue with the connector, i could not see how to set it free but after few minutes i had that one loose too. Now i have ordered for my Chevy Tahoe 2004 a new actuator, the original had number: 52402588 and that one is replaced by: Four seasons 37537 at RockAuto.com. Further i made a new special tool for the installation of the new actuator second screw in the back. I made a hole in an aluminum strip and pressed this socket 5,5mm very tight in that hole. further, the strip is about 20cm long, i drilled a hole in the end of the strip and fetched there another strip of about 30cm which is able to pivot or swing. So, now i can make a bigger move when i screw in that nasty screw in the back. With this new tool i am able to move this tool with an angle, and i do not need to put my hand inside anymore which is quite convenient, as this tool is about 50 cm long in total:-) With my left hand i keep the socket in place on the screw. Too bad i cant post pictures here, it would explain it quite easy. Now it waiting for the new module, build it in and calibrate the whole thing according to your instructions. I hope all works quite fine afterwards. Hope my input is also of any help to anyone. Tip: If you don't take of the dash, you cannot lift up that subframe for about almost an inch, that is the advantage when you take of the dash. All together took me two hours to get the actuator out. Good luck.

Its been a while since I did this job, but I'll tell you what I "think" I did. I plugged in the actuator and moved it all the way to either cold or hot from the dash controls. Then I somehow knew which way to manually move the blend door to where it was also all the way cold or hot. Then I installed the actuator with them both set all the way hot or cold, so that they would be aligned. I hope this helps.

@@reconcilabledifferences9710 *Your opinion* Will airbag deploy accidental unintended removing it? You just unplug and take the bolts out? This servo usually just place antioxidant on the connector contacts and jiggle it some ~ I had the grab bar removed and plastic cover out but was afraid to remove the airbag as it might have an internal storage for battery gone ○Way this looks at 2:50 appears that if I can get the airbag out I can see the diverter / deflector door - The servo is a $1.19 unit they are getting $119 for

This is an awesome hack but it 100% would not work on my 2005 GMC Sierra 2500 Duramax. Not near enough clearance between the actuator and the AC vent to get a 1/4" drive ratchet and socket. Even tried flexing everything very hard with a pry par and still no luck. I'm very mechanically inclined. Perhaps some sort of improvised welded socket or ground down ratchet/socket combo would work. I ended up just unplugging the actuator in its coldest position since I live in FL and don't really need the system to have heat. Keep up the great vids.
