Thanks for video. How ahead of time would one book the various train tickets? Can we buy them once arrive in Japan or needs booking way ahead of time? Thanks

@keithooi5950 I book some before , around 2 months before I arrived Japan. Booking earlier may get you slightly cheaper tickets . Really depends. You can also get your tickets when you get here. I think best research where you getting your tickets from. But booking definitely helps as it save you time from getting tickets when you are in japan. Let me know if you have more questions

Do you mind sharing how did you get to Takayama after alighting at Toyama/Inotani ? :)
@HA.TravelFood4 ай бұрын
Hi @genn334 , we actually have a JR pass. We took the Shinkansen to Toyama. From there you can continue the JR train or Shinkansen to Takayama. Check this link - www.google.com/gasearch?q=toyama%20jr%20to%20takayama&source=sh/x/gs/m2/5#vhid=sagqO9xA_v-4LM&vssid=mosaic. Or search Toyama JR line. You can see Toyama JR line is red colour. And to Takayama is yellow. Takayama JR line actually owns by a different company. If you have JR pass , check to see if it covers to Takayama. If not, you be the same as us, where we need to top up around 1000 yen per person I believe. They check your tickets on the way there. If unsure, you can always ask the conductors who are super helpful. Not going to lie, is super confusing and we really had taken wrong trains in our trips. Another tip, if you travelling Japan, and you bought a JR pass in advance , make sure you check where to collect them. Because not all stations have the ability of collection. Let me know if you have any other questions, I be happy to help!
