Dearest, this is a long story, and a complex one. No doubt the DDR was the 'better' Gèrmany, and this was expressed by its anthem as well. But the Western anthem has a complex story as well, it was composed, at its time, by a person considered a dangerous terrorist in exile... history has its strange twists and complications.... thank you for sharing this inspiring anthem of the DDR

The DDR represented the freedom of the working class in germany. I dont want the shit modern germany with this amazing anthem, we need to reconstruct the free germany and so we could have this anthem again. Long live socialism!

In reality it was the party bureaucracy that called the shots. Especially in the early 50’s in the DDR, the workers were exploited with High work quotas. Thus the 1953 revolution

- Stories you can't make up!!! - "It's all over now Baby Blue". The only national anthem where the lyrics were forbidden in their own country. This happened after the construction of the Berlin Wall in 1961. The lyrics include the line "Deutschland einig Vaterland". That was over after the Wall was built. From then on, the anthem was played in the GDR only without lyrics. 😎☯☮

Yes but it was in 1974 rather because both Germanies recognized each other and stopped wanting to annex each other (abgrenzung).

I like this anthem way more for a united Germany. It has an original melody and speaks of rising from the ashes of war and reuniting!

The composer intended this to be the anthem of a united Germany, not realizing in late 1945 that the partitioning of Germany would last 45 years, rather than a matter of months as many at the time expected...

Thx :) I was born 1981 in east-germany at the baltic-sea. I hate communism, i hate planned econemy, i hate the "STASI" monitoring state! All that was the GDR, but i cant forget my childhood and all the music i hear in and after the fkn wall breaks down. Thx for some good memories u rised up in me :)
