Do they have capabilities in San Pedro to do MRI/XRAY? What are costs like for xrays/mri? I have been waiting for 3 months in Canada and may chose to have them done in Belize if reasonable.

Great info. My wife and I are planning to re-locate to Belize, probably Placencia, when I retire in 2026. We have been to Placencia once and San Pedro once. We just wish to long-term rent for at least a year or so, and then maybe change locations to San Pedro or another locale (on the water...not jungle lol)

Oh yeah, Sanctuary Belize, I know it well. I bought a lot there, it's a good thing I didn't have to much money back in 2012, I only lost 3,200 Canadian. However, I knew a couple from Australia that bought 2 lots, paid for them in cash, and lost 300,000 US. Yeah, no more glitter for me. LOL

Sorry to hear that, and glad you didn't lose too much. I hope the new development being marketed does not hurt too many people. I know a lawyer who got a couple of people get out of their contracts.

If you renew each 30 days for a year without leaving more than 14 days, then you can apply for permanent residence.

The way I book tours is when I find people interested. Once they commit to a certain date, I then do a youtube video promoting the dates to others. Do you have a time that you think will work for you? Perhaps late April?

@@LindainBelize I'm somewhat flexible. I'm retiring the middle of February. After that I'm free. I just discovered my passport expires in August, so I'm trying to get it renewed ASAP. Not having the passport is really the only thing that could block me but I'm not terribly worried about it.

I get where you’re coming from-politics can definitely impact a place, and Belize isn’t immune to that. A lot of people are moving here to escape the political climate back home, but it’s true that Belize’s own political challenges can affect the experience here too. Placencia offers several advantages for retirees, particularly when it comes to access to medical services. A new polyclinic has recently opened, providing local healthcare options. Additionally, my doctor operates a private clinic here and has prior experience working in the U.S. For more specialized medical needs, many residents travel to hospitals in Belize City or even across the border to Mexico, where treatments can be more affordable. Both destinations are accessible by car from Placencia. While there isn’t a service like Uber, taxis are readily available for transportation. Most stores don’t offer delivery services, but many locals are willing to assist with errands such as grocery shopping or picking up medications. Hiring help is also more affordable, making it easier for retirees to manage day-to-day tasks.

Warning! The dark side of HomeExchange! One week before my arrival date, my host cancelled my reservation for no valid reason. I had purposely booked something within the city limits of Stockholm, because all my engagements were in the city limits. HomeExchange then sent out inquiries (after I had written to them 5 times) to other properties around Stockholm and got 1 possible answer. The only problem was that this property was over 30 km (19 miles) outside of the city limits, where I would have to travel by public transportation more than 1 hour to get there. I would also have to travel through some very unsafe neighborhoods to arrive at this location. Travelling through these neighborhoods at night is very unsafe, especially if you are a single woman, so naturally I could not accept this arrangement. HomeExchange then informed me that they had offered me a place and I did not accept, and therefore they were not going to reimburse me for hotel expenses. This is the truth and people need to know the truth. HomeExchange hides behind their corporate fine print, saying they have the right to find another exchange location that is within 50 km (31 miles) from the original reservation. It is all fine and dandy until your host cancels, then you are on your own, this the dark side of HomeExchange. I had been a loyal member of HomeExchange for at least 5 years, where I have paid my membership fees on time and had done several successful exchanges, but I am now going to cancel my membership. I have not been treated well.

There may be local rentals in the range but they are not generally available for tourists. I do know of a place that sometimes has studio rentals for 700USD.

Yes it is. Note that the menu is priced in USD and is more expensive than almost any other place I have been to in Belize. Drinks are cheaper even at the Hilton so if you are looking for a great drinking spot, check out Toast nearby MBV and Dirty Martini right inside MBV.

Did you look up Tropic Air and Maya air directly? The prices are usually $159 to $200 USD round trip but you can also rent a car.

There is clear water at Secret Beach and the Mahogany Bay Beach Club in San Pedro but San Pedro doesn't have sandy beaches. In Placencia we have less clear water but really nice beaches.

The floor plan was in the contract, but they didn't do the deck the way it was in the approved plans. They said they would need more money to do it the way it was supposed to be. That is not uncommon in Belize.

It can be hard to get around without one, depending where you live. When I first lived in San Pedro, I was on without one as I was not far from the airport, and it was ok to walk to many amenities.
