Thank you mr. Pete is just stumbled across this on you tube. What a great video you know your lake sir. Ive been guiding on flathead lake for 11 years now and grew up here on the water. Just got done with a have day trip now watching fishing vids lol. Very interesting how you use leaded line when fishing a flatfish on the down rigger. My best lure today was an m2 rnw on the down rigger aka lucky. Lucky caught one of our old luckys off the bottom today! Any how its a shame what they are doing to flathead with mack days and indian gill nets. Sad.

Isn't it a shame that they are netting and just destroying what are trophy lake trout lakes.. the indians are doing the same damn thing on flathead and the big mommas that were everywhere are just not there in the numbers anymore... I used to be able to fly fish for them in the shallows in the spring and fall which is my main method of fishing for macks and in general although i do jig once in awhile and its very difficult to even do that anymore as the big fish just aren't there as much as they used to be....

There is NO REASON to mount it below the plastic. We often install them INSIDE a 2” thick fiberglass hull with no degradation. That 1/8” of plastic will do nothing (except protect it!). The only thing that affects these transducers is air. You do not want air between the water and transducer, that screws up the signal. Even bubbles screw it up, the signal bounces off air and gives you false readings. Thats why you loose the signal temporarily when you go over where a big boat just ran by, the air mixed into the water from exhaust, wake, hull, prop… all screw the pooch on your sounder until you get back to clear water.

I don't know anything about trout, but for striper fishing and for bass fishing, if you stop quickly and then restart, it can help trigger a bit, especially if they're coming up on it and then all of a sudden it stops/slows and it hits them in the face, they just bite it... stripers/bass. Good luck. Did you ever make a video on how you made your underwater gopro rig? I'm looking for it now.

Hey I’m just trying to decide on what hobie to go and tossing up the compass and the outback. I had liked the idea of car topping and was just wondering if the outback felt a lot heavier than the compass moving around or is it not too bad? Just since you’ve had both I was interested to get an opinion. Also how’s the standing stability compare? Cheers
@WildEdgeOutdoors
@WildEdgeOutdoors 11 ай бұрын
Hey Clint, I originally bought the Compass because it was 20 lbs lighter and also less expensive. After I bought the outback, I found it didn’t seem much heavier than the Compass for cartopping. Also stability seems a bit better in the outback. I was really happy with the Compass and couldn’t think another model could be better, but I did find the Outback is a much better fishing platform because of the better seat, way more places to mount accessories and capable of steering on both sides of the kayak. For the type of fishing I do, ( big, deep water) the Outback works better for me 😁

Yup, the lure action, the speed, changing directions, fish being active/hungry or not, fish being there or not, atmospheric pressure, water temp, visibility etc... all these have to align right and we have a strike, or else we have a nice day on the water washing lures 😅. Thank you for the video. I am in the process of making one of those housings. Used the same ABS reducer to house the camera, however i am not using the housing as the weight. I have a chain through the body of the housing, one end connects to the downrigger weight clip, the other has a clip that connects to the weight. That way I can change weights as needed and the body of the housing therefore is shorter.

Good video. I am switching to all 80-100# braided line for my kayak rigger setup. I have been running a downrigger from both a kayak and canoe for many years, recently becoming concerned about the danger of getting the ball hung up on the bottom in rough conditions, or in the event of flipping, getting tangled in that cable. Thanks for the tips on the downriggers. 25+ years ago I installed one on my single seat Bucks Bag pontoon and it really opened the high altitude mountain reservoir fishing. I just installed a Brocraft on my Hobie Compass today but now I fish Lake Michigan for Salmon as opposed to Kokanee and Lake Trout in the 90's in Colorado. One thing I noticed using the hand cranked downriggers was the strikes I'd get raising and lowering the ball. I've never really seen anyone talk about it on youtube, but varying that depth while trolling got me just as many strikes as zig-zagging! Thanks for the info!

I love my 2023 Hobie compass in the orange camo. I've been an Oldtown guy. But I fell in love with that boat, when I could touch it and see it in person. The only thing I'm not a fan of is. The rudder. I sold my 1st j2 Bixpy to my buddy, he's happy lol. And I purchased the new J2 PP 768 Bixpy, with twice the power, but I have to purchase the power pole adapter for the Hobie, because of the rudder. I also did my hatches, just as you did. The seat is also my other complaint. But now with these boats, you can change anything. I actually have a small pool noodle, in my seat, it'll resolve that bar issue. But I can walk all over her bow to stern, she's fast, love the fin drive. I'm 5ft 7 158 lbs so it's a perfect, and stable, boat. With all my add-ons, electronics, lights, just love the kayak. 😎 🎣 🛶
