Water damage is a given under windows on older boats. The bigger issue is the fact that the leaks were never fixed. You can never check everything. But how the owner treats the problems you can find, tells you how they probably treat the problems you cant find. Those unfixed windows likely mean a lot of other things have been ignored to.

Man, I feel your pain. We bought our boat in 22 (98 Cruisers Yachts 3850) knowing that there would be lots of upgrades and updates needed. Survey showed a suspected head gasket issue on the port engine, but unable to get it repaired when we bought it due to lack of parts. We were able to bring her home from FL to Charleston, SC over 4 days without any issues. The port engine finally crapped out in January and needed replacing and then the starboard engine started “acting out” just before we went to the yard. Both my wife and I still work. I have changed jobs to where I can work remote. The boat went to the yard to the engine replacement and then found out the starboard engine had two bent lifters, so replacing that engine as well. It’s been a big thing to swallow, especially this time of year. But, in the end, we will know the status and history of the engines. Just need to finish with the autopilot and will get the boat painted next year. Good luck on your search and looking forward to your adventures.
@sovereignsea.

Wow! Glad you were able to make it to the yard. If you love the boat, it'll be more than worth it. While we didn't have any engine-related issues on our Marine Trader, we had some surprise osmosis come up-- and it was quite the journey. Two brand new engines will give lots of peace of mind. See you out there! Cheers☀️

You need a shorter boat, newer, with fewer long-term risks. Anyway, good luck!. Oh, you need to add a brief description of specs of your vessel.at start of each vlog.
@JeffVanDerford
@JeffVanDerford 12 күн бұрын
All of these boats are going to need a lot of work; good luck that. Maybe a shorter length would offset the need to buy a vessel too big to handle. 'Specially if you want to tackle the loop. In your narration you need to speak more about mast height and depth, surely the key issues for the Loop.

Thanks for the video. Agree the Tolly is better finished than the Californian, but the water damage looks extensive on the Tolly. Do you know how much damage there was on the boat when it was bought at auction? If there was any sort of water intrusion there may be lingering damage to electrical system and other major systems. Does the Tolly have good Cummins diesels? The Californian may have ancient CAT 3208's which are tough but nowhere near as civilized as Cummins. BTW there is a terrific KZbin series put out by a couple who travel the Bahamas in a Tolly called C-Shels.
@sovereignsea.

That's a good point about the water intrusion. We decided to pass on the Tolly (spoiler alert) for that reason-- she also had detroits, which were both turbo and supercharged, which is not exactly what we're going for. I'll have to check out their channel! The tollys really are special. Thanks for the comment-- cheers☀️

Becareful, My first time seeing your chanel and I get the impression you are a novice ( because a woman only looks at estetics & a Man looks at the mechanics) chasing a dream? Maybe watch 'in too deep' to learn what to look for and what to expect when purchasing a M/Y. Also where you plan on docking or mooring her, will have its cost. Also check the city requirements and regulations. Good luck.

Engines, generators, shafts, sounders, radars, wiring, hull and deck condition etc. These are the big money things that can bite u in the ass. If you are under 62 keep working. The GCR is about to hit so keep looking for your dream boat because not much will be for sale afterwards. You will get every IRS tax back and the trading on your birth certificate. If you are 62 or over I will not tell you what you will get because it is unbelievable. We have been slaves of our overlords and they have skimmed the top of our wages away in unfair taxes and punished us for working overtime. We get it all back very soon. So look forward with joy. If you are not prepared the train will leave the station without you. If I tell you more it will be taken down by our masters.

That boat crossing in front of you in St Augustine was coming from your Starboard side, he was the stand-on vessel and had right of way, you were the give way vessel and were burdened. A way to remember is that you see the red light (port) that means stop. He sees your green (Starboard} light and that means go. Sorry to have to tell you this. Love all your videos, very interesting and I am glad you are enjoying the experience. Stay safe.
@sovereignsea.
@sovereignsea. 3 ай бұрын
We realize he was the stand-on, no issues there. Just the speed and the choice to cut so close between us and the marker without giving us time to steer into a very large wake was the not so courteous part, but no harm no foul! Cheers, thanks for watching☀️
@wmmoran
@wmmoran 3 ай бұрын
@@sovereignsea. I see your point, as the stand on vessel they were required to maintain their bearing and speed, as the give-way vessel it was your duty to avoid a collision. Typically, this means you must alter your speed and/or direction to cross behind the other vessel (the stand-on vessel).
@sovereignsea.
@sovereignsea. 3 ай бұрын
@wmmoran We were not the give-way vessel here as we were being overtaken, which makes us the stand-on. Please note that both vessels were traveling in the same channel on the same course, which means that when the other vessel was first able to see us, they were approaching our stern, well within the sweep of our stern light and outside the sweep of our starboard light, making her the Overtaking Vessel - and as such, she's the give-way per Rule 13. At the point where that clip starts, we are at G29 near statute 785. There is a warning on the chart for shoaling, and I am steering into the current and trying to stay near the marker in known deeper waters. This may have put her just inside the sweep of our starboard light at that *specific* point, but that doesn't take into account the minutes she spent on approach from our stern that wasn't in the clip. Also, note that we were in a narrow channel, so Rule 9 also applies.
@wmmoran

I watch the barometric pressure all the time to judge when headaches are going to get bad, it's always been that way. My first bad headache was at 2 years old and I told Mom that my eye hurt bad and I couldn't see the rainbow she was trying to show me. She poured a ton of eye drops around my general eye area and then rushed me to the hospital. After decades of telling doctors that story, I realized the rainbow was a clue and started watching for the barometric pattern and there it was, the elusive headache pattern. Kinda the same story as @theabsolutetruth2024 in another comment. We have an uncle who had the same affliction told me to try various cold medicines that say they relieve sinus pressure and I found that Tylenol Cold Severe Congestion (it says Cool Burst on it) really helps with the pain from the pressure. It does, however, completely knock me out. Since I've been so busy, I live on headache powders, which is terrible for you, but it does allow me to function normally. Or... as normal as I can be. If you need it to work quickly, dissolve the powder in your mouth with a sugary caffeine drink before you swallow it. This sounds counterintuitive, but sometimes what works is to pound back a Redbull and then lie down. If it gets very bad, I have prescription head meds for that, but even if you don't, get your head cold and your legs warm. You're hurting because of the pressure and a bunch of blood up there isn't helping things. Also, oxygen is a common treatment for cluster headaches and works great for the bad migraines also. I doubt you have an oxygen tank, but you live around a lot of wind :) I could have just texted you all this, but I hope it helps someone else. Glad you guys are okay!
@sovereignsea.

I'm glad you have meds that help! Thanks for the passed down wisdom🙏 I hope I never get them as frequently as you, but I do have a bad one once a year or so. I'm sorry you have to deal with them at all): I will definitely refer back to this in the future though ☀️

Bekah, I heard you mention your headache. I'm not a doctor, only my "life-long" experience dealing with "SEVERE" migraines to my forties. Auroras in my vision, (Kaleidoscope effects in my vision), followed by a few hours of intense pain, ending with a very bad upset stomach (upwards). Never had any idea what is was. Neurologists, CT scans, MRI's....nothing. Came home early from golfing one day with the vision impairment. Knew a migraine was coming. Felt a sore spot directly over my eye and thought, "sinus?" All we had was Benadryl. Took it, fell asleep, and woke up 4-5 hours later and for the first time, I never "got sick" (v--it). Since then, I live off of Benedryl, Afrin nose spray with menthol, and Tylenol Sinus. When I have a lingering headache, I take Tylenol sinus, and low and behold, about 30-45 mins later, I'll sneeze a few times which indicates the pressure in my sinuses is releasing. Sunny, cloudless, clear days indicate a high pressure system. That high pressure causes headaches for me; hence, Tylenol Sinus to release the pressure. Itching eyes, sneezing and watery eyes with a headache, I go for the Benadryl. Hope this helps you if you suffer from frequent headaches, or anyone else that happens to read this. Again, I'm not a doctor or clinician giving medical advice. I'm merely sharing what has worked for me and cured me of "SEVERE MIGRAINES" my entire life. Sinuses! Safe travels!
