Usually the abuser is extremely sweet, loving and caring in the beginning - psychiatrists call this stage 1: “Lovebombing”. 2: “Isolation” Then, when the victim is deeply in love and already attached, is when the abuse usually starts. Usually this process is so slow, that when the victim realizes what has happened the abuser has made sure that the victim is completely worn down and striped of any confidence - so that they won’t have the capacity to leave. Another proven key factor is that abusers usually isolates their partner under the radar. So when the abuse gets bad they don’t really have any other support, and only have the abuser around them. This way, it’s easier to make the victim think that it’s their fault, and that they can’t get support or a confidence boost from anyone else - which keeps them mentally broken. 3: “Escalation of abuse” - this is usually when everything escalates - in physical or mental violence - when the victim is at their lowest and all alone the abuser apologizes and begins the lovebombing again. 4: “Honey moon stage” the abuser showers the victim with love and care and wins them over again - and they go back because they have been so beaten down that the love is like a high (when you are isolated with no other support) - and the cycles begins again. It’s crazy, because this pattern is the same, universally, not depending on culture or country. It’s very interesting and good to know, as it’s easier to spot when you see recognize the pattern. Tip: Statistically, it’s takes about 7 tries (leaving and coming back) for a victim to finally leave an abuser.
