If they were really smart, they would have smoothed out any conflicts with Russia and worked out a sweet multinational conglomerate that would share equally throughout the venture. As a multinational conglomerate, I foresee the project coming to a complete stop right from the start because they would never be able to settle on which country gets to host the site. Unless they've already decided to start with Russia's deepest unfinished hole in the Kola Peninsula standing at 40,230 feet. Which would save them time and the tons of money it took to dig the original hole for twenty years. By offering to share any new discoveries with Russian scientists in exchange for sharing the Deep Borehole site they could make a giant leap to forward.
