One of the issues I have is that this only works on instruments and vst's. I place wave files and mp3s in the sequencer but when I record it overwrites the recording so the only way to adjust levels with automation is to write them in and oftern times its not very smooth. I want to use a fader on my midi keyboard but it seems using the pen is the only way for imported audio files.

What I really miss in Reason is the ability to put patterns into the main sequencer that act as if they were still a pattern. Meaning, if I then lay down 16 copies of that pattern and change one, it should automatically change everyone else. It feels a bit silly to keep the Pattern Sequencer around in the rack just as a workaround for Reason's limitations in the real sequencer but I guess that's the only way to achieve what I want.
@andrewgreatorexmusic3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I have done either in the past, kept it in place in case of change and also removed the MPS when the pattern has been created and sent to the main sequencer. I guess if I dropped a MPS back onto the said device it should inherit the pattern from the main sequencer or series of blocks it exists in. Also, it would be good if it would update the main sequencer across blocks (if desired) when the pattern is the updated in MPS. I guess I’d not thought about it too much more until you mentioned it. I like the idea of layering patterns where MPS is aware of each layer in the main sequencer or block. Suppose it starts to get complicated. Reason wish list!
@sinewaymusic3 жыл бұрын
@@andrewgreatorexmusic I find that I often want to try slightly different patterns fairly late in the process (sometimes as late as when mixing and mastering the song), and at that point, if I change something in a pattern that was already laid down on the main sequencer, I have to copy and paste that change all over the project and it ends up taking a lot of time. But keeping the pattern step sequencer around also feels like a slow down because I need to look in the rack for things that really are part of the sequencing. I guess I'll have to choose - excessive copy/paste or keeping step sequencers around for the arps and bass lines. In contrast, FL Studio handles this elegantly with their patterns that can be copied into the sequencer and then you can right click to "Make Unique" if you want to make individual changes in e.g. transitions.
@sinewaymusic3 жыл бұрын
Reason wish list indeed! Same with automation clips, btw: I wish there was a way to copy any block in the main sequencer and keep a connection to the original block in such a way that altering any of the connected blocks will alter them all (until you deliberately break the connection by choosing Make Unique). That would speed up the workflow in the sequencer considerably. I find Reason's Blocks mode to be way too clumsy for this as it works across multiple tracks and feels more like something designed for creating basic song parts like Chorus, Vers, Bridge etc.
@djmattplay9 ай бұрын
You can pencil in pattern clips into the sequencer and then if you change the corresponding pattern on the device, you’ve effectively changed all of the instances that were penciled into the main sequencer. All you have to do is right+click the pattern buttons on the Matrix and it creates the pattern automation lane in the sequencer. Then switch to the pencil tool to pencil them in. When switched back to the arrow tool, you can click a dropdown menu within the clip to get a menu and assign the desired bank and pattern to that clip.

Что тебе нравится в Reason больше всего? Какие у него преимущества перед другими daw ?и как ты думаешь ,какое у Reason будущее : будет ли он развиваться только в качестве vst или же в качестве daw тоже?

Thanks for the comment. My favourite thing about Reason is the endless possibilities with all the synths, effects, players and now VST. Not having worked with physical hardware before, I like the endless wiring options and chaining of devices. I have used Ableton before, but found Reason to be more user friendly, I guess it's because I've used Reason for so long now, I just know how to do things with it. I think opening it up to VST has paved a better future for Reason, but I'm on the fence about the recent subscription model that has be provided. As I use Reason for a hobby I find PAYG a better option for me. I'm hoping the future model includes the subscription and the standalone options. I think many people showed their thoughts when Reason+ was released recently.
