Yes since he comes off as just a typical jerk in the beginning but Disney didn’t do the best job hiding it as the message of the entire movie is don’t judge based on appearances.

I think the first Disney twist villain was Edgar from The Aristocats. Granted, most twist villains hide their evilness until the twist, and when we meet him Edgar he has no evilness to hide, and is instead a sincere loyal butler, but we see him turn from good to evil on his third scene. So, his villany is still a surprise.

I think for people who first watched the Movie, they think that Gaston would be a one-off Jerk that appears at only at the beginning for the real villain to show up, but as the movie progressed he shown to be more dangerous than previously thought.

But then again we never know which franchise will fell off the hardest in terms of quality & financially😅. Ice Age: without the humans this franchise is doomed. Shrek: Shrek The Third Hotel Transylvania: Too Looney Tune-ish that it may be unwatchable. Toy Story: LightYear (a spin-off movie not the cartoon). Despicable Me: Regardless, this franchise still has an audience.
@moviemadness253619 сағат бұрын
True. Very true.
@2099EK23 сағат бұрын
I didn't see the "why"; the closest was the audience believing the hero should do no wrong. I thought you might go into different directions, like the villain's actor is so much better/convincing, or the story setup is counter to the audience's views (for example, the hero sides with someone the audience sees as in the wrong, or sides against his family/people), etc.
@moviemadness253619 сағат бұрын
I did touch on some of that, especially the hero doing something the audience disagrees with, that falls under "bad writing". Basically, I said it without actually saying it, if that makes any sense. You do raise a good point about the actors, though, I wish I had mentioned that as another possible reason.
@2099EK19 сағат бұрын
@moviemadness2536 That's a good point about bad writing, for sure. Regarding the actor, the Smallville TV show hired Michael Roaenbaum to play Lex Luthor, who was a much better actor than Tom Welling (no offense intended to him). I think I just enjoyed him on screen more and rooted got him to not go evil. 🤣
@moviemadness25366 сағат бұрын
@ Thank you. And I can definitely see that. Sometimes, actors can make or break a character, and when they make them, they can make them BIG.

If you give a villain his just desserts, good characterization is gonna overshadow his villainy. Ignoring a heroes villainy or lingering on it too long is gonna have the opposite effect. Also, you answered why people hate Sam Rami's Mary-Jane with Eddy Brock. Harry and herself are the most annoying characters in Spider-Man 2 and 3. Christopher Walken would be proud of you, though.
@moviemadness253619 сағат бұрын
I do see what you mean with the first two points. Especially the first one, people are more apt to hate the villain if he gets away with everything. If he doesn't, it's easier to appreciate his other qualities. Some still take it too far, though. As for point three, as I just said, some people still take it too far. And as for point four, I don't understand. What's Christopher Walken gotta do with this?

Like I said in the video, I'm not saying Wish is a well written movie. Just that no matter which way you look at it, Asha is not to blame for King Magnifico's actions. The movie can be accused of doing a lot of things wrong, but that's not one of them.

thank for the encanto section! it’s crazy to me how people think alma never apologized when theres a whole scene highlighting it! mirabel is not the one who has to make up for what happened, its alma. alma goes to find mirabel and apologize directly to her and owns up to her mistakes and it frustrates me how people overlook that part to say “grandma bad”. Encanto is not afraid to call her out and highlight how unhealthy this family is and it annoys me when people forget crucial scenes just to fit their own narrative. As for coco i have to agree its strange how miguel has to do all the work. AND HES 12! thr dead characters supported hin more than his own living family until the end which is only because coco wanted to hear music. I still think its a great movie but there are definitely flaws that are never talked about.
@moviemadness253610 күн бұрын
As far as Encanto goes, I'm just calling it what it is. Alma is rightly treated as in the wrong instead of Mirabel and is the one who has to apologize. I like to think that Miguel’s family (especially his Abuelita) apologised to him after he helped Mama Coco remember Hector. Because in the end, music helped bring Coco back to them in a way she’d been lost for quite some time & I think that would help them in realising that music was never the problem & trying to force Miguel to abandon it almost made them lose him as well.
@moviemadness253613 күн бұрын
I do believe that's what the movie was going for with it's ending. It's just that some people (and I'm not necessarily saying I'm one of them, I'm staying completely neutral on this topic) wish they had said the quite part out loud.
@sparxstreak0213 күн бұрын
Believe me, so do I. There’s not NEARLY enough scenes (both in movies & tv series) of characters who’ve done wrong apologising when they should - though I’d say that’s the result of time limits in terms of story & which characters specifically being framed as the ones in the wrong (even if it’s not just them). An example of this is in another character is Isabela from Encanto, whom I also believe should’ve apologised to Mirabel 😒 who also used her as a scapegoat just like Abuela Alma did. I know they have her explain why she acted how she did but she was still a shitty sister, yet they have them simply make up with a song & hug instead of Isabela ADDRESSING her crap & apologising to Mirabel they way she did for her. But like ‘Coco’, I like to imagine she found a time to apologise to her baby sis during the time-skip of rebuilding Casita.

I always thought the term “Disney Prince” was born from Disney Princesses, these princes only gets their official disney title from their respective princesses and they’re almost always their love interests. I heard somewhere they’re probably renaming them to “Disney Heroes” if we’re separating them from their princess counterparts or they don’t need to be love interests. Is Mirabel even an official disney princess? I don’t think she counts as one so far, even though she has every right to be one of the princesses. Its also funny that, while Maui’s character is more similar to the Genie and Phil (from Hercules) than a traditional prince, but Maui can easily counts as one because his character is exactly how you would describe Beast/Naveen/Eugene. Maui’s relationship and dynamic with Moana is exactly like Eugene and Rapunzel, minus the romance and a bit more antagonistic at first, also its funny how you say he’s a demigod but Moana turned into a demigoddess herself at the end of her sequel, since she’s already counts as a “royal”in her own tribe, getting a demigod upgrade is almost like an equivalent of non royal princess marrying into royalty. He may not be a disney prince, but he checked all of the boxes except being the princess’ love interest. That all said, I do think the solution is they need to treat “disney prince and princesses” like prom king and queen, to my knowledge prom king and queen don’t always need to be a couple. That way you can have a disney princes and princesses that is more about friendship than romance

I get that not every film needs to have a romance. We don’t always see friendships between humans enough in Disney animation. But it didn’t mean many rejected romance or “princes” in movies either. And the best ones showed how the prince and princess can be independent but willing to accept help from the other. We see what they have in common and why they fall in love. If the romance has a purpose, add it. Don’t shove it in there. But don’t assume people don’t want romance in their films either.

As Disney Princes go: Aladdin has the best character and arc, as he's a good-hearted thief for learns that it's better to be honest than deceitful. Eric is the most likeable, as his good traits are shown very early (he's down-to-earth, he plays music, he isn't proud, he rescues his dog from a burning ship--major points there). But Phillip is the best Prince--when he fell out of bed that morning, he thought he'd be marrying a princess he met as a baby. He didn't imagine he'd fall in love, be kidnapped by an evil fairy, be rescued by other fairies, fight demons, and battle a fire-breathing dragon in a forest of thorns. You can tell that dragon-slaying was not in his princely training, yet he rises to all the challenges without hesitation.
