I'd say, some ppl like to make fanarts that are a bit "much" and some ppl of the community also simp WAY too much and would straight up sell their kidneys just for a character. Though this is only a SMALL part of the community, most ppl I've met are pretty funny and wholesome

But I'm just drawing a character with animal ears, not wearing them. There's a big difference. And even if the character has animal ears, why is it immediately a furry? The character could be out of a fantasy world or it's just the design of it! :)
