I think your 'disclaimer' at the bottom doesn't do you justice! I really enjoyed the sessions and there are always things a GM can improve on. Don't knock yourself too hard. Re the air ship - the hangar in Cardington is just a few miles down the road from here. Added an extra dimension for me.

Well played! Regarding the issues you were having when applying damage - it's not a bug, just very bad user interface, especially for players. The system distinguishes between "selected" and "targeted" and you can only apply damage to an actor that you have permission to modify. For players, this means that they usually have themselves "selected" but they don't have permission to modify the "target", thus they end up applying damage to themselves. I will likely change this in the next system update, so that you can only apply damage to the "target". Thanks for the illustrative video :) Best regards, Patrik P - Foundry system developer for Dragonbane

It's easy to get carried away with the kickstarters. I only backed 1 game in 2023 and that was a Norwegian game for younger players. I want to support the effort in bringing rpg to kids/teenagers so we can share an awesome hobby and keep the hobby alive/growing. I get concerned when I go to conventions and the average age is 30-40. Awesome people, but it a bad sign for the long run. So now my effort will be in bringing games to the new generations.

I’ve found kids these days spend hardly any time with adults other than family and teachers. The afternoon school program has tons of appropriate precautions and safety for all which makes teaching them RPGs so important. They learn social skills, interact with each other in a more creative way and discover a game where electronics are not needed - they read too! It’s rewarding for them but I get a ton out of it. Their favourite games are Vaesen and TWD both much more problem solving and social intrigue. They also don’t have adult anxiety so they don’t get hung up on rules but simply play as intended. Thanks for the comment and encouragement.

@@reluctantartsy Well said. I have some of the Vaesen books. I think that will be an interesting choice to start out in rather than D&D. I have sold all of them because I stuggled to have fun with it. I love the setting in computer games like Baldurs gate and I have read plenty of the books. But its like a dinner dish you eat often and one day its just full stop and even the thought of eating just a bite turns the stomach. But there is so much out there of wonderful games and I love variety. I think we are already into a new Golden age of Ttrpgs. A lot of new stuff is comming across the board on all types of genres and D&D just cannot keep up with that.

I just started a roleplayingclub in my part of town . I forgot to put in anything about age originally wanting to make a group of grownups. . 70% of those who who wanted to join was between 13-18 years old. And I thought ....why not? The hobby need young people. I was hinted to look at your channel. I was thinking I could only play games for children. But I see you are running more mature games. I find that interesting and if I do the same I don't have to buy tons of new games.

Absolutely. Use your judgement and common sense about where you, or they (trust me they can come up with ideas that will curl your hair) can be comfortable. Use flags or veils to close out some scenes. The character development and interaction is so much more interesting for them in my experience. Most of all have fun and bring your enthusiasm to the games you present. That is addictive and contagious in good ways.

I'm very tardy to this video. It was utterly delightful to sit down with my mug of coffee and enjoy time with you and Geek Gamer's fun wisdom. I adore her videos and your review nailed on the head exactly that fantastical feeling of Yes, Let's Adventure and Explore she conveys so very well. Enchantment is such a wonderful word for the delight when you're playing. Being an Old Biddy that only observed RPG play longingly in a lunch room of the 70s. Teen aged guys had firm ideas about a girl's place. It was not at the game table. It was easy to sit a table over, stare at my books, while eavesdropping shamelessly on their adventures. After school, I scribbled tales in worlds with encounters I created. I *was* playing my own game and loving the secret of it all. The fun of Solo RPG makes me feel part of adventurous secrets once more, even after a long day working and all the RL that must be tended. Thank you so very much for taking the time to share! I am most humbly grateful.

Katie, that is so very very kind of you to write and offer a glimpse into your experience. I’m so glad times have changed in that way and everyone feels they can engage in enchanting stories and be part of their creation, no matter if solo, online or around a table. You will see about on my channel that I run an after-school program, and all the youth, equal distribution, thoroughly enjoy playing together, but many love the creative process one can have simply by sitting down and starting an adventure, similar to you, and in many way myself, in the 70s and 80s doodling adventures. Thank you for writing and taking the time. I’m glad it made an impact. And you have reminded me I’m due to put something up soon.

Just watched this on my way to work. Very reflective and insightful. Your character (you) made a choice and although it closed off options, it didn't stop you from progressing, so we are in a "yes, but" territory. It was a surprising choice, but rooted in the character, which can lead to a much deeper RP connection. That's why I invited two other players to discuss this - such an event, that took them aback in the scene, should make their characters wonder what drives this woman travelling with them. I think this dimension of building relationships between characters is what drives character play - and I would love to play in one of your TWD games, where this is central. In our group, that was not the reaction that followed, where players felt they had wanted to act before that killing to stop it. Given that situation in play, the helplessness the players experienced matched that of their characters, and I truly think that is a valid part of the story. The "what happens after that" within the group, how they deal with such a surprise or transgression, should yield really good RP. I am at the risk of rambling here and need to get back to lesson prep, but no, I would not call it a "stupid mistake".

Thank you, but it honestly had me think about what “is” railroading and agency and what do these buzz words mean in context and out of it. Mostly it is a personal reflection that seeks others to initiate the same. YZE games ask questions of how the session went, what was accomplished how id one play, but I believe these questions should be thought of after the game, going deeper into our own self-awareness of it’s fun and enjoyment but also with a critical eye in order to bring about deeper reflection. Hobbies should be something we love, but also want to always improve upon; if we stop reflection we are in danger of remaining mediocre and stuck in a mechanical view. It’s to me a social contract of mutual respect and though, after re watching, I did ask many questions, I didn’t feel I respected the others by asking them, “let me just kill him, blood on my hands.” So no it wasn’t a blatant or insulting action but one that made me think. Hopefully I will integrate that in my future play as Narrator in games and as a player. I love the fact that each of us players have different views of the game and what we enjoy which is consistent with ttrpg in general and yet are very keen to play along each other respecting our divergent views. I think I out-rambled you :-)

I just paid the shipping on the all in kickstarter and after looking after the scenarios I'm beginning to regret it. It doesn't seem as good as I had hoped and seems, as mentioned, a very emotional drama soap opera with a few zombies as side notes. I sure hope I am wrong
@reluctantartsy
@reluctantartsy Жыл бұрын
I started session 0 last week and by including backstory questions it did flesh out great potential, but potential for heartache; one with a boyfriend, 3 with young teenage kids, a husband etc. I still maintain its amen emotional roller coaster that needs a very savvy and experienced GM to provide nuance to the the building blocks provided. They aren’t bad, but the can scenarios need some GM imagination. They are good jump off points; but how much blood and guts will a group take before wanting to move on to another ttrpg? It will be best if played for a few sessions, maybe 5 and then wrap it up, play something else, and come back to it. For me it’s like Vampire the Gathering, I can play in short bursts and then get bored. If I were to chose a FL game that never gets old it’s Vaesen, it almost has a built in move along mechanic. In TWD moving along means carrying NPG baggage and drama. Your observation of soap opera is bang on: hope it plays differently.

@reluctantartsy
@reluctantartsy Жыл бұрын
Station 18 was wonderfully translated ;-) and a great adventure for the kids. Essentially they went down the promenade, encountered the side alley with bones, discovered what they were yet still unsure of origin. Encounter the Kubo in two waves of 4 then 7. Found the one hiding but quickly didn’t care much LOL. Went to the Biome, used their mercurium knives as machetes and saw flora and fauna. I took the liberty of saying the large trees had scientist name tags and remnants of suits at their trunks. A drone was destroyed by a creature, prompting a very emotional response from the PC with a devastating aimed shot (4 successes). 30 children were born from a central tree at the command of the missus; describing it as bark like an octopus and a child coming out of each cup. The kids loved this part. At the death of the creature, she got miffed, plants all seemed to react and they ran to escape encountering fire from the ones who wanted this place whipped off the records. The took scooters in to the ship to escape the tarns and left with both ships destroyed; theirs by the attacking “force”, and the battleship via a very large woman who grew out of the biome with a trunk and two massive hands that crushed the ship … she went on her merry way and the PCs are now stuck in space on scooters. I enjoyed the freedom of the module and ability to develop Wahina.
