Hi Nancy, after mounting your pastel paper onto the foam core board, how do you then hang it on the wall? Does it need to be framed on glass and a wooden frame again? Sorry for asking, I'm new to this.
@gunnarannaburling437 Жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for your video! I am new to pastels. Can you please tell me what thickness your foam board is? I see that there are a variety of thicknesses available, most common 1/16, 3/16, and 1/8. I would appreciate knowing what size to purchase. Your painting at the end of the video is absolutely beautiful! Thank you again for sharing this video, perfect for beginners.

I came here through Karen Margulis Patreon. That was wonderful. One question: how do you secure your mounted paper on the easel? Do you attach to a larger piece of foam core? Using artist tape? Wonderful painting.

Nancy where is the best place to purchase the 1/4 inch gator board., or the foam core. Having a hard time locating it. Thank you for sharing this great video.
@nancynowak40233 жыл бұрын
Most art supply stores have foam core and gator board. Your local Hobby Lobby or Michaels sells it, as well. I prefer the acid free foam core for it's much easier to cut and less expensive than gator board.
@sheliacruz35023 жыл бұрын
Thanks for replying. I have found it at Michaels. I am really trying to locate a good source for gator board. 1/4 inch. I really enjoyed watching your videos. Hope you upload more in the future. Have a wonderful happy 2021
@1002suns3 жыл бұрын
It is true that gator board is much more expensive than foamcor. However, I have had trouble in the past with foam core bending easily after a while, especially if I leave it standing and leaning against a wall. Since you mount many pieces at one time, are you storing them horizontally in a drawer? And are you framing the pieces right after finishing them?
@nancynowak40233 жыл бұрын
@@1002suns Yes, the foam core has a tendency to bend a bit over time, especially the larger pieces. I paint smaller paintings (9 x 12 - 12 x 16) so I don't have a problem but if you paint larger, I would go with the gator board. If it bends, I found the framing (with spacers) evens it all out. I store my boards upright in wooden cubbies (off the floor) that I had made. I only frame the "good ones" right after I paint.

Thank you for the tutorial, Nancy. I love your work and your generosity as an artist! BTW, a special glove has been created by quilters Fons and Porter to wear on your ruler-holding hand called the Klutz Glove, so that if your knife does slip you can be spared a painful trip to the ER.

That’s a great process, Nancy. Thanks for sharing. What brand of foam core do you use? Sometimes the foam core I use doesn’t cut so smoothly, and it tends to have rough edges. Are you using Gator Board or is it another brand?
@nancynowak40235 жыл бұрын
There is no special brand of foam core. You must use a very sharp blade and then it will cut smoothly.
