Hi! Alumite can be a pretty nice tool material and generally ends up being better than steel in terms of durability, and also (if I remember correctly) in terms of durability modifier. I think you just clicked on the wrong Alumite ingot. There's a lighter pink one that's what you're looking for as a tinker's metal. Watch the video starting at 10:22, it's 5th from the left in the top row of the search results for alumite
