What a shit decision it was for Williams to switch from Renault engine to Mecachrome... Totally destroyer Villeneuve Jr's potential
@NFRF1-TVАй бұрын
They never switched. Renault left the sport at the end of 1997. The mecachrome was a rebadged 1997 Renault engine. So no new development on the Williams and Benneton engines in 1998.

I remember reading at the time that Ayrton had decided that he would push too and past what he considered the limits of the car and himself in that last corner because he knew he could get the pole even if he had an accident. I have no idea if that is true, but if it is, it speaks of his dedication and determination to do everything he could to achieve his goals. The track layout was changed for the next race, so I like to think it is true and the French were determined to stop Ayrton beating Alain Prost. RIP Ayrton ❤

Can't remember if it was this year or 92' but they had a glass roof around the start/finish straight and the noise of the cars broke the glass 😁 also 90 and 91 Ferrari definitely the best sound in F1 - ever! 😍

I well remember it, but I almost forgot about it.... This one lap, even after so many years, gives more emotions than the entire season today. And that typical Senna "bumping" on the gas pedal in tight corner . Very aggresive driving style. Still love to watch...I'm glad I was interested in this sport back then, because there's nothing to watch in that boring, poor, modern f1 now...

The way you can hear him feathering the throttle in the turns is so cool. I’m convinced that’s one of the main things that made him fast, he picked up speed in the corners by not lifting completely.
@nathanwilliams2152Ай бұрын
Exactly. If you saw his throttle trace from a testing lap, he brakes very late but not for very long on entry. Then, he'd stab at the throttle through the corners, controlling the back of the car that way, which enabled him to carry more speed through the corner. Mansell had a different style, brake late, but take a shallower or tighter line to the apex, controlling the back of the car with the throttle and his upper body strength.

Who knows?. Mika Hakkinen almost died in Australia 1995.
@NFRF1-TVАй бұрын
Ittalian law said that any death at a sporting event. The event must be cancelled. The day before Senna's death. Roland Ratzenberger died. His death was on impact. But was only anounced later at the hospital so event would not be cancelled. Had they done the right thing, history might have been different. But our reality is as a result of many what if's.
