Pity no English subtitles. Just watch the action & guess. These old films look interesting. Thanks for sharing.

I don't understand the language, but it the 'male' performer...the teacher of Lijun & Xiao (New Dragon Inn opera)? The performer looks like the teacher, but younger. If so, it's nice to see the teacher actually performing in her younger days.

English translation is helpful. Should I come across Chinese language versions of this opera, at least will know the story and enjoy it better. Thanks

这些老艺术家的表演非常投入会把人带入整个戏中,现在的青年演员只有花巧的表演,不会把人带入整剧情中

Someone in comments asks why there is a need for all female or all male casts. I ask....why not? If you don't like it, what are you doing here? In the West, there is a saying taken from 'Hamlet', the famous drama by Shakespeare: "The lady doth protest too much, methinks". It seems, the angry comment could well reflect a deep-seated, and narrow-minded, prejudice. It ironically could cover the commentator hatred of one's own attraction to the hated thing, but doesn't want to admit it. There has to be some personal problem with the commentator, otherwise why would you bother to look at these clips and make such negative comments? Are people not free to choose what they like, as long it is harmful to the performers or to the audience. I am not keen on boxing, but I don't purposely look for boxing clips and then complain on the comments. Don't you have some interests you can go and enjoy, instead of being miserable here 🤔

Sorry, typo omission: I meant to say "as long as it is NOT harmful to performers or to audience" 😅

Pity there is no (English) translation. Would like to know the story. But from some of the comments which can be translated via youtube....it seems there is a discussion about lead performer(s) versus whole cast. Performances is a success through the sum of all parts. That is, all performers contribute to the telling of a performance's narrative. But, still, the audience does need a lead or a pair of performers to act as a focus. This or these lead performers are the hub or core of a wheel. The other performers are the spokes of that wheel. Thus, the drama needs both lead performers AND the whole cast to make a good perfornance.
