Why can't I find anything on your eq-al55i pro mount? Even in SW's website... Also online: no reviews, no comments.... I wish there were some reviews on this mount, as I am yet to decide bewteen it and the Adventurer Gti...

The magnitude table doesn't list a 90mm aperture (the size of my current telescope). I'm considering buying a 120mm. Would that be a 1 magnitude jump? Thank you

Hi, a few questions for you if you have a bit of time: - you mentioned that you flew with a Wave 100 and an Esprit 100. What do you think of that combo for imaging? - regarding the tripod, is there any other option than the carbon fiber one at the moment (ignoring the future steel tripod / the eq6 pier)? Like can I mount a Wave 100 on a star adventurer or eqm35 pro tripod ? - as of satellite tracking, can it be continuous or is it limited to leap frog tracking? Thanks a lot!

Excellent report. Very fair. One little quibble: The star Party is called, simply, 'Starfest'. No 'Ontario' qualifier is used or needed.

Hi, I've just seen this great video and have a pair of AZ-GTis already. About the Freedom Find feature, I tried this whilst the mount was tracking an object and got a sound of grinding gears when re-tightening the clutches - is that normal? To clarify, I used GOTO to find and track the object, untightened the two clutches, pointed the scope to a different part of the sky, and retightened the clutches.The last part making the temporary graunching sound (gears re-meshing?). I've kind of asked this question on the internet and with the seller and didn't get concrete answers. Is it OK to use Freedom Find whilst an object is being tracked (the sound discourages me from using it again) or should it only be used when not tracking (i.e. gears not in motion)? Many thanks for any comment.
@SkyWatcherUSA
@SkyWatcherUSA 3 күн бұрын
Usually we set the clutches just tight enough to engage the gearing but loose enough to where it gives easily. What could likely be happening is that the gears are just reengaging. These also use servo motors over steppers so you are likely hearing all the gearing inside engage at once. If there are ever any issues please let us know.

Thanks for the extensive coverage on Starfest, Kevin! You’re certainly right that it’s highly worthwhile to check it out! The talks are great! Generally everyone is very willing to share the views through their scope. A quick note for anyone that is thinking of attending. Registration fills up pretty quick so if you are even thinking about it - make the commitment and come. Although the event was officially starts on the Thursday of the new moon in August, many people camp there permanently, or head up in days preceding the event. The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada Hamilton Centre folks typically head up on the Monday and make a week of it. I love discounted gear so I’d be remiss if I didn’t plug the swap meet that happens on the Saturday. I’ve seen a steady increase in the quality of used, reasonably priced gear! Definitely a highlight! In fact, I picked up some goodies for our Centre this year. Next time please come find one of the Hamilton Centre people and we’ll get you up to the eyepiece of our 36” Dob. We are affectionately calling it The Big Dob - TBD for short.

Thank you for the kind words about Starfest 2024, Kevin. We were delighted to have Sky-Watcher USA as our Imaging Contest Sponsor and thrilled that you, Jarred, and Jeff could join us in person. We’re very appreciative of the support from our vendor community and, as you noted, we’d love to have more of our US friends (vendor, attendees, speakers) come join us. The Starfest Team is taking a well earned break but we’ll be back at it in the New Year planning Starfest 2025 to be held Aug 21st to 24th 2025 at the River Place Campground. Thank you to all the vendors, speakers, and attendees for making Starfest 2024 such a success. Clear skies until next year!

Boy, was the recommendation to buy a Celestron eyepiece kit a BAD idea! Compared to the 10mm and 25mm eyepieces Skywatcher provided with my 250P, the Celestrons are terrible 😢 Blurry soft, terrible quality. A major brand like Celestron should be ashamed of selling this crap. The inconvenience of a return is stressful and costs time and gasoline.

Can we do PPEC with the CQ350 and NINA? I'm also curious what you feel the best settings for guiding would be for this mount with a C11 and an OAG? I'm having a rough time getting consistent behavior even after 3-point align.

The CQ350 does not have PPEC at this time. It is something we are pushing for however. PHD2 should be able to figure your guide settings for you. OAGs can be tricky due to the limited field of view.

Just a little tip from a guy who uses covers a lot of my mounts and leaves them outside. I use heavy cream colored BBQ covers off Amazon. First they reflect a lot of heat due to color and second they have a side vent which lets air circulate under the cover. Of course always dry off everything after a night of imaging if or when you can.

Like! An off topic question. If I use for visual observations for example a Skywatcher 150/750 mm F5 achromat and a Skywatcher 120/900 mm APO, I understand that with the APO the Moon and planets will look 10x better and sharper but how about galaxies ? Will the galaxies look better in a high-quality 4.7 inch APO than in a 6 inch short F5 achromat ? (For visual observations only, not astrophotography). Also is the contrast on galaxies better in the APO than in the achromat ? Thank you!
@SkyWatcherUSA
@SkyWatcherUSA Ай бұрын
Apos do help focus all the colors to one point so they tend to be sharper, it is noticeable on brighter objects. When it comes to deep sky those differences will be much harder to see. One of the best views I have had of M51 was through a 120mm f/8.3 achromat refractor. Achromats have their uses and if you are looking for the best contrast per aperture a refractor is going to be the best as long as you can deal with the tube. For your use, an acro should be fine. -Kevin
