If you can dance salsa, bachata, cumbia, and hip-hop, you will destroy country swing and all the girls in the club will want to dance with you, trust me 😂

@@elinserio8162 dance experience of any style can help when learning any other style. Many concepts translate well (others don’t). We dance every one of those partner styles (as well as ballroom (smooth), Rhythm (American style Latin), west coast swing, country, Lindy, and more. None is superior to any other. Experience in the social Latin dances you listed may help in some ways (just as experience in country swing would help in learning those styles to the same degree). But, experience in any style does not mean that in itself would guarantee “destroying” any other style.

That’s was brilliant - I’m only watching on KZbin right now and with other training videos I was I can’t do this until I go to class and feel it. With this video I got it straight away and know I’ll be able to WCS 💃🏻 when I find a nearby class and have some funds £. 😉 Thank you 🇬🇧 you got my subscribe 🎉❤

One thing that might be more advanced but would still be cool to learn about is what if the music is doing something with different rhythms like triplets or polyrhythms or if something like the bass or drums are hitting on off beats or eight notes or something of that sort? There's all kinds of things you can do with that but you need a lot of musicality to really pick up on those things. I've been playing the piano for over 40 years in several different styles so I hear it all happening, but I just can't always figure out how to incorporate that into what I'm dancing just yet.

Definitely. However, I also feel like there is a line between "think" and "feel". That being said, the dancers that do things based on "feel" can make great dancers, and dancers that do things based on "think" make great teachers. BUT ... the thinker sometimes has a hard time teaching feelers and vice versa. For us, Rose is the true dancer and Anthony is the dance geek haha

So is this a 12 count combo?
@countrydancex
@countrydancex 19 күн бұрын
I'm going to give you the actual real answer. Be prepared because it's going to sound weird haha. Everything in WCS is either a 6 count or 8 count pattern... and it doesn't matter how many beats of music. Technically this pattern uses 10 beats of music, but it is an 8 count pattern (beats 3/4 are duplicated)

Robert and Laureen were our first couples dance instructors back in the 90’s in Livermore Ca. We saw them on Broadway years later I think 2000. Wonderful memories and Ted and I did a lot of dancing inspired by Robert especially.

I’m having trouble two stepping. I go to a dance once a month and each dance( almost all are two step ) I have to pick a new girl. No offense but your two step looks closer to walking than dancing. Any advice? Or video you recommend ???

Hey guys, great breakdown of the structure of 2 step. I also teach from the concept of knowing the base structure of a dance and using that structure to create multiple variations. Awesome! Also, the ladies turn technique was spot on.

I came up in this UCWDC era from the bars, had to learn ballroom, had to learn swing from swing people, and saw/experienced everything he is talking about. Robert is speaking the truth of how the comps changed. When I came in 1995, Country was going through this transition that he is talking about. Rising the ranks from D4 to D1 was the greatest challenge and a lot of fun. 1995-1999 was just an awesome time. Our group probably diminished our local club being hotshots 18-30-year-old changing the status quo with our moves from the events. People quit hitting the floor learning the basics as we spun around the floor, hitting the breaks, using big moves, wearing swing shoes instead of boots, etc. From a business perspective, the masters' group 1995-1999 was a draw and you didn't want to miss an event to watch all of their rivalries. Every division had extremely fierce rivalries and Worlds was the winner-take-all. 90s country UCWDC created so many dance professionals that eventually branched off, went in other directions, and became lifelong dancers. I am glad I learned in that era. Dr. TJZ

amen about the instructor. KZbin is great but some instructors are no better than just watching youtube. And the flip side, some are fantastic. Sometimes you just need to take the instructors you get, whether good or bad.
