I hope they do add aerith and Zack scenes to the lifestream sequence it makes the most sense to show them there. I think I’d like to see aerith and Zack with cloud through the events just like Tifa does for the nibelheim scenes. It could even be a good place for them to fully explain the lifestream and why cloud can see aerith and Zack even though they are dead. Either way I have full faith in square to smash this last part out of the park. Great video man!

I wonder if any hidden paths are in the game... As a kid I thought sephiroth died, fell into the bright blue, then thought it was life stream, which makes sense with the crater. Vincent being an experiemwnt and turk could have better cross over with Zack and cloud and the weird memory merge that we know happens between jehova cells, so their is this psychic calling, like cicada or bugs that called back to the nest... the bodybof sephiroth males the most sense since it was the only unlocked unwrapped person being hojo and lucreatia son.. I think, which is related again to Vincent.. a real stretch is Vincent being an older experiement and a turk could he be really Zack.. no because of the chronicles later, but... cloud isn't cloud.. cloud as like everyone died back then... question we never get answered is how cloud survived,the 2 year gap when Tifa questions because she says it was actually 7... hobos angry that cloud is the only one jehova cells seem inept on... why? What makes cloud different? Lamb of God? The pure sacrifice against this abomination of jdhova becoming incarnate abandon or o liovion to the planet s life.. extinction events are fairly common... meh... 5 years and 7 years thing, puts two years in hojoa experienents and considered a failure... but then again he is drawn to jehova but as a conflict.. hmm

I really didn’t like the scene at first watch. I felt they had taken the emotion we all felt with Aeris dying and replaced it with confusion. After watching it more and more and reading theories, I at least understand what the devs were trying to do. 1) Create intrigue for the last game, to get people talking and thinking and interested in playing it 2) Further build Cloud up as someone losing control of his mind. Cloud experiencing the scene as in the OG does not make sense given everything we’ve seen him do and say in the last few hours of the game. 3) I strongly believe that Cloud will experience a moment like all the others experienced in the end of the second game where they “relived” their trauma, likely as part of the livestream sequence. It’s during this time Cloud will experience the full scene and feel the true emotions, just like everyone else did. 4) There’s a chance that they may get Cloud (and possibly the party) to believe he killed Aerith, which wouldn’t work if they played through full scene. I still have problems with how the scene played out in general, but I think there’s a lot of opportunities for it to end up working. Excited to see what they cook up either way.

@@Jordan10704 I'll definetly have issues if they dont revisit the scene revealing the true events behind Clouds trauma filter. As for how the scene plays out the devs came out & said the focus was shifted away from her death to focus more on Clouds inability to cope & accept reality. So I guess I was spot on calling it Clouds trauma scene moreso than Aeriths death scene. And I agree that Cloud will have to face his trauma like the others did at the temple of the Ancients which is where we will see the iconic death scene of Aerith play out very closely if not 1:1 with the OGs.

5:00 check out how far away Sephiroth is standing from Cloud and Aerith. And you're seeing this from Barret's 1st person perspective. Sephiroth's sword is long but it ain't that long. Did he take 15 steps backwards after taking his sword out of the ground? You missed the part at 5:07 where they zoom in on Tifa's eyes too. Tifa is the one seeing Aerith both with and without blood, not Cloud. They animate that being from Tifa's 1st person view deliberately. I don't know. I think they are doing multi-world stuff again here but that's just me. Cloud being in heavy denial will of course be front and center in part 3, but I can't wait to see how they resolve the differing perspectives.
@nostalgiaverse98923 ай бұрын
Well the devs have come out & said the scene is more centered around Clouds inability to cope with loss this time around so it's hard for me to believe shes "alive" & I'm pretty positive the "worlds" are spiritual in nature but we will find out soon enough. Like the idea though.

I do think they are planning on using the multi-world elements to add some impact to the narrative. Don't know why they would have included it if not. That's it.
@nostalgiaverse98923 ай бұрын
@rsoxboy I'll be honest I have no idea where the empty white Materia thing is going. I'm excited to find out, but I wouldn't get too invested with Aerith being "alive". The devs have said before, & even after Rebirth, the OG events wont be changed in a significant way. Her being alive, is a significant change. But again I am under the assumption that the worlds are spiritual in nature, which was heavily alluded to in Rebirth so its hard for me to see Aerith or Zack as "alive". They still "exist". They haven't disseminated into the LS & lost their individuality which is also the case in Advent Children.

I'm really disappointed about the ending because the whole game until the end was absolutely incredible but the ending left a sour taste in my mouth. I'm still holding out hope for part 3 though and I am hoping they do something to fix this scene that will make it more impactful and less of a confusing mess.

They have mentioned that there will be no DLC for Rebirth but if they did consider it - I've been dreaming of the idea of having the entire Rocket Town Region be fully explorable and to be set within Rebirth as well - just like in the OG. What's to say that they did escape Rocket Town thus leading to the moment when the Tiny Bronco could have sustained damage as they crash landed into the river en route to Costa del Sol? I'm currently playing through Hard Mode so I want to go back and see if there's a cut between when they left the Nibel Region and the Bronco crash. If no DLC, it would be a shame that Aerith didn't get to visit Rocket Town like in the OG. Maybe we'd get a tease into Cid's combat mechanics and I also dreamt of Vincent involvement too. What if there was a side-story during the Temple of the Ancients chapter where they too would be treated to Cetran weapons. Just feels out of place that they don't have special weapons, but that's just me...

I guess it’s still an open question whether it’s a “sequel” or not in the sense that we don’t know if the events of the OG have already happened and we’re in a time loop or something as some people have theorized. But I’m more in the camp that we are playing through a reimagining and expansion of the OG and aerith/sephiroth just have prescience and It would match up better with what the devs had said thus far. Phillip Hartshorn and Sleepezi had a good discussion on this topic and I like Phil’s idea of how the time stuff could play out in a sensible way in line with OG.

Yeah, it's interesting. The parts of the intro that mimic the original are such a perfect recreation, down to the exact camera movements, it certainly doesn't feel like that would be a mistake from the devs. And watching the OG intro, the OG ending scene, and the remake intro all side by side really shows it pretty clearly. Another detail is that from the very first FF7 Remake key art released, Sephiroth is shown with the one full black wing, appearing like it never did in the original game. It first canonically appeared like that in Advent Children. Even the first time Sephiroth is referenced in Remake is when a black feather falls to the ground. A pretty odd thing to happen if he has never even canonically had the black wing yet. Plus the Advent Children music which plays in chapter 2 directly before you actually see him for the first time. And then there are all the random flash forwards throughout Remake... I'll be happy either way, as its been such a brilliant ride to go on, and I've loved all the theory crafting, but I'd certainly prefer it if it does turn out to be a sequel of some kind.

Dyne and Nanaki's emotional scenes were kinda negated & ruined by having Palmer slap his ass, Dio flex and Gi Nattak dropping lore right after. I don't think saying Cloud only imagined saving Aerith tracks. The biggest evidence we have that Cloud did save Aerith is Zack's choice between getting Cloud help or stopping Biggs. We know this universe splits off into different directions when vital choices are made. Knowing that means we also know there is a world where Cloud in fact saved Aerith, just like we know there is a world where Aerith never made it out of Midgar. Sepherioths entire goal is to collapse all the world into one, so he only has one Aerith to contend with, becuase he can beat one Aerith but as long as their are infinite Aeriths his plan can't succeed. I think the theory that Aerith can now travel between worlds and Cloud somehow sees between worlds tracks a lot better with what happened. HOWEVER that raises a bigger question. What IS Aerith, and exactly what were the ancients? That being said I wouldn't expect anything from Disc 2 & 3 to be the same in Part 3... execpt for Tifa slapping TF out of Scarlett, that's a must-have.

You should watch my Not a Sequel video. It contains a bunch of developer quotes talking about how everything wont stop the OG events from continuing to happen. Also if you reach out to me on Twitter I can show you an interview that says Aerith died because it follows the OG events, & that OG was about the sudden loss of her character, & Rebirths approach was Cloud being unable to cope with the loss of her character. I saw this interview after this video was made but it's hard confirmed she is dead. Where Zack & Aerith reside isnt some living world or alternate timeline, it is something within the spirit world.
@johnw39223 ай бұрын
@@nostalgiaverse9892 Of course the Devs can confirm Aerith is dead. In OG she died. Confirmed. However it's is also clear that in Remake Aerith knew of her upcoming fate not as a premonition but as a memory. This is confirmed when Marlene told Zack that Cloud has to save Aerith from the man with the sword. We see that Marlene was given one of Aerith's memories and I do say GIVEN because in Rebirth Aerith can't remember a lot of things she used to know. Then in the ending sequence Sephiroth said she was "hiding in a world that has already accepted its fate." All that is mutli-verse. What is also multi-verse is Stamp changing breeds every time the world is changed. The Devs made a very firm point of showing us Zack's Stamp isn't Remake's Stamp at the end of Remake. Stamp is even an entirely different breed from those two when Cloud and Aerith are on their Doomed Sector 5 date near the end. Cloud didn't reimagine Stamp and neither Sephiroth or Aerith would alter that detail to effect Cloud's mental state becuase it's not a detail Cloud would notice.

Thinking she is completely dead errases everything Sephiroth and the game showed us about the "worlds" and the rainbow effect that appears when a new world is created, you can see in 4:10 that the blood only appears in Clouds flashback/reflection of what happens in the original game and when we are brought into the Rebirth world Cloud lacks said blood. There is another thing like Aerith not noticing the air generated by the turbines of the tiny bronco at the ending but when she is with Cloud she notices them and in surprised by this, the whole "Aerith is 100% dead" theory crumbles when you don’t notice these details. Also Cloud being the only one that sees her connects with him being the only one to see the rift in the sky, she is alive in another world similar to what happened with Zack and the "main" world is in danger now because it shows a rift like the doomed one from the date and Zack’s world also worth noticing that at the end when it’s just Aerith we don’t see the rift so it could mean the word she is in isn’t in danger anymore.

@@agamersinsanity nope. I think that's people grasping at straws and the further you dive into it the more it falls apart. If Aerith and Sephiroth are from the future why do they allow the events to unfold exactly as they have before? They could both change things to have a more desirable outcome for either side. There are much more sound and simple explanations. Sephiroth has future knowledge simply because he did in the OG. He states this at the Temple. Aerith was aware of people dying and such in the OG and she becomes more aware of things at the temple as well. It's left ambiguous and not explicitly laid out what exactly is happening with Aerith in those moments. In the remake saga they simply heightened her connection with the LS. Then it becomes severed at the end of remake for it to reconnect at the Temple. Much more simple explanation that fits into what has been shown. Also, why would Red and the party want to change the future in which they won? Everyone points to Red's comments at the end of remake as if that is some "eureka" epiphany. That's the good ending. They won. They beat Sephiroth. They stopped the meteor. Humans are living more harmoniously with the planet 500 years later. Etc. Why would they fight against it? Like I said, the sequel theory falls apart rather quickly when you simply ask questions. It's. Not. A. Sequel.
@DJChamber3 ай бұрын
@@TheSteelers4190In. Your. Opinion. The further I delve into your comment the more it falls apart... "If Aerith and Sephiroth are from the future, why do they let events unfold exactly as they have before?" ~ Really? EXACTLY as they have before? Did you miss the bits where Sephiroth manipulated the party into fighting and destroying the 1000-foot tall mighty harbinger of destiny? Weirdly, I don't remember that bit from the original. Or that fairly large chunk where Sephiroth manipulated Cloud into very nearly killing Tifa, and then minutes later Sephiroth did his very best to try to kill Tifa too? I'd say the reason things aren't changing more is because A. They are powerful but not 'all powerful'. And B. Aerith/Sephiroth/the planet/Jenova/the white whispers/the black whispers are all fairly successfully cancelling each other out with their 4D chess. Doesn't seem that wild and outlandish to take into consideration as a possibility with all the other wild stuff going on? And hang on a minute, if you are saying he definitely has future knowledge in O.G. simply because of one, singular, isolated, ambiguous, possibly mistranslated line from the entire script of O.G., then why didn't he also change things then so they didn't go the way they did with him losing in the end? If the argument is that in the original, he had access to partial future knowledge but if he's travelled back in time, he should have full knowledge... we don't know that? Whispers took some of Aerith's knowledge of the future, she said it herself, so who's to say they didn't do the same to Sephiroth before he figured out how to control them? So that argument falls very flat 'rather quickly'. But more importantly... Assuming you are referring to this individual line when you say he 100% definitely had future knowledge in the original game: "I'm far superior to the Ancients." "I became a traveler of the Lifestream and gained the knowledge and wisdom of the Ancients." "I also gained the knowledge and wisdom of those after the extinction of the Ancients." ~ I don't think anyone playing the original or the writers took that to mean 'oh wow, this guy can see the future', and then it's never mentioned again. It is very possible he means after the death of Ifalna (who was "the last remaining pureblood of the ancient Cetra" ~ so no future knowledge in that case. If every tiger in the world died, but there was still a liger knocking about, you could certainly still say tigers were extinct. Also, its a 90s translation, very possible the meaning was closer to 'after the ancients were pretty much wiped out', which canonically would have been a long time ago. Kotaku actually did a video series translating the original Japanese version to English, and the guy in the video said its referring to the eras after the ancients were gone, the translation means "he got the ancient wisdom and he also got some modern science". Nothing about knowledge of the future. Seems like a 'much more sound and simple explanation' to me). Not quite as cut and dry as you thought eh? I don't recall anything else in the original that suggested either Sephiroth or Aerith had any future knowledge, so this makes a lot more sense than the writers just throwing in that absolutely massive plot element in the original that one character can see the future casually in a singular throwaway line. "They won... Humans are living more harmoniously with the planet 500 years later... Why would they want to change it?" ~ Err... Aerith was killed. Midgar, the biggest city on the planet, was destroyed, and the countless people who were still there were killed. Then for the next 2 years, geostigma spread across the planet and indiscriminately killed countless more people too. We know 3 years later, there are still existential threats to the planet in Dirge of Cerberus. We know humans were still around living semi-harmoniously with the planet then, 3 years after OG FF7, but we have absolutely no idea what happens to humans after that. The '500 years later' bit was left intentionally EXTREMELY ambiguous as to whether humans survived (there's no trace of humans shown, only the sound of childs laughter ~ that could be an actual living child somewhere off screen, or it could be from within the lifestream/planet itself, or it could also be Red XIII's kids, as we know his species talks and sounds human). I think most people are under the impression that actually, humans are NOT still around then. At best, its about a 50/50 split on what people think? Intentionally ambiguous as I said... Although now Red has basically said its the bad ending, it really heavily implies that humans aren't still around... We. Don't. Know. One. Way. Or. The. Other. Yet. Because. The. Third. Game. Hasn't. Released. Yet. So. Don't. Try. To. Call. Out. People. Just. For. Disagreeing. With. Your. Opinion. I haven't even delved into any of the many reasons I think it may well be a sequel (or similar). Something tells me there is nothing anyone could possibly say that would change your mind. I'm simply saying that what you are saying is not anywhere near the proof that you think it is that it isn't a sequel (or some new weird thing with sequel elements)...

It still could be close to a complete reimagining at this point, or it could be a sequel, or it could be (my actual best guess) something in between the two. There's already in-game indisputable canon that future events from after the original game are affecting the current events (in that a form of the Advent Children remnants from 'a future timeline' that appear at the end of Remake) so it wouldn't be wrong to say that at the very least, it is already 'somewhere in between a reimagining and a sequel' as opposed to a pure reimagining. I'm guessing there will still be debates about it long after the final game is released though.

I’ve gone back and forth on whether it’s a sequel or reimagining. I lean more towards it being a reimagining especially since the devs keep saying it is, but It’s tough to say for sure because of how the lifestream works. It could kind of be both a reimagining and sequel with The“physical world” being just the reimagining. There’s nothing stopping dream world Aerith being a post ac Aerith in a way, since the lifestream to my understanding does perceive time in the same way the people on the physical plane does. Cloud even mentions Aerith acting strange, and I even think it says something about this Aerith being strange in the chapter details. Some of the confusion also comes from Nanaki saying something end of remake as the party is fighting giga-whisper along the lines of "these are the events that will happen if we fail here today" and it was a vision of him running outside midgar just like at the end of ff7 og. The whispers definitely need a little more explaining. Though in rebirth during Nanakis date Nanaki wonders if the party will forget about the existence of the whispers. Great video! Lots to think about.

Sequel is a hard word to use when describing a subject that lives in the realm of potentially timelessness. Narratively it behaves like a sequel but the themes of the game itself lend itself to being far more complex than linear time, so much so that it could genuinely be as much a prequel as a sequel.

With the Whispers split between Light & Dark fate has now become the outcome of that struggle & I think the struggle between the two shapes the OGs events instead of stopping them from happening. But yes the Whispers need more explaining for sure.

The writer will just destroy whatever we put up as theory anyway. We don't really know if Beagle is even a real world or it's just Cloud's fever dream. Moreover, the writer didn't come up with the idea of 'worlds' and lifestream just for fun.

my favorite part about about the new FF7 stuff is how much it appeals to my adderall damaged brain with the constant flashing techno vomit and button spamming, so much better than the turn based system that built the foundation of jrpgs and literally put the genre on the map in the first place. Man stuff thats old is so bad no matter what right lol!

I think you might have it wrong. Sephiroth and Aerith were fighting for control of the situation, but not on the sides you think. All of this did actually happen. The rainbow effect that engulfs Cloud's sword as he parried Sephiroth's blade was the same effect shown previously when Zack made a divergent choice that splintered the timeline. Sephiroth was TRYING to allow Cloud to stop him from killing Aerith, because he knew that was the way the story was originally supposed to go. Aerith was trying to make sure events played out as in the original, knowing she would die. She'd made peace with that, and knew that her death with the White Materia was necessary to save the world from Meteor. Sephiroth had mentioned that his goal was to absorb the Lifestream of these doomed worlds fated to die and transcend his own fate. Towards that end, he WANTED Cloud to save Aerith and create a new fracture where she lives and Meteor destroys Gaia since Holy and the Lifestream don't manifest to stop it. He intends to suck the Lifestream of this new world Cloud created with his desperate attempt to save Aerith. However, Cloud, having created this new timeline, has his consciousness trapped between the two. He can see and speak to the Aerith who lived, while also being stuck in the reality where she died. He didn't initially realize what had happened, which is why he's not affected like the others. To him, she didn't die, but the reality is that she did in this world. I think the devs knew that fan's biggest question at the end of Remake was whether Rebirth would let us save Aerith. But from both a fan and a plot perspective, they knew they couldn't let her live. So the idea of multiple timelines doomed to collapse into one came to be, using Zach as the bait. Aerith had to die, but since there's now a reality where she lived, they left open the option to bring her back in the 3rd game for the finale, the same way Zach returned in Rebirth. It'll be interesting to see how they deal with Cloud's fractured consciousness; shattered by Mako and Jenova, then again by Sephiroth and split across realities. What's real, what's fake, and what's simply in another timeline? It brilliantly keeps the audience guessing because they know Cloud is an unreliable narrator, so they can't trust anything about this ending until it's confirmed one way or the other in the finale.

Yes this is what I think as well. Also we never got Aeriths great gospel, etc. I think she will be back in some way for the third game. Maybe this time she will actually survive all of it at the end.

I wonder if Part 3 begins at the Northern Crater as the intro/prologue/chapter 1. Chapter 2 begins with Tifa in Junon and open world with the highwind (I'm guessing a limited form of open world, like how Rebirth opened up). We'll continue as usual and get Cloud back at the halfway point. Then when we finally return to Northern Crater (post Midgar Raid) we'll go via the Great Glacier and Gaia's cliff.

If the devs pull it off and I think they will Part 3 is going to be so good. So many iconic scenes left to be shown. Sephiroth making cloud question if he killed Aerith. What a great idea! Cloud being brought so low is going to make for an amazing lets mosey moment, especially with how well this game is voice acted. Not to mention the expanded lore on the Gi and Cetra. Amazing, the devs are definitely cooking. With all this stuff Part 3 going to have to be 3 discs, making it a 7 disc total experience. Great video!

I think Aerith could totally help Tifa get to Cloud in the lifestream. No I don’t think she’ll be a part of helping Cloud piece himself back together, but I do think it’s possible that she’ll help protect Tifa/ help Tifa get to Cloud.

Yup I dont think Aerith or Zack are gonna be there. I dont think Cloud would open himself up to anyone else but Tifa plus she is his childhood friend/crush as well so affirming those shared childhood memories is a big part of the scene.

People are very resistant to the idea of Aerith and Zach being part of piecing Cloud back together. It looks like it’s being set up that way though and I think it would be amazing but I’m thinking the devs won’t do it because people are so mad about it not just being Cloud and Tifa. Personally I’ve never played OG so maybe I’m missing something here but I liked the idea of Zach, Aerith and Tifa all helping piece him together again. I think it gives Zach purpose since I think he’s low key dead in a dream pocket temporary world within the lifestream. Also I agree they are gonna show Aeriths real death during the lifestream sequence. I think your right like Sephiroth is gonna tell cloud he killed Aerith and it’s gonna break him but in the lifestream sequence he will see he did not actually kill her. I love it.

The Lifestream moment is Tifa's moment to shine. Tifa is the only one who knows Cloud's past and can fix his mind. If they have Zack and Aerith being there, it would take away her moment.
@Step430993 ай бұрын
To shed a little light on it for you; firstly regardless of fans being upset about it the devs wouldn't change it just because of that. They've already got this stuff planned out and in the works no matter what some fans might say or want it's not like they can just waste time and resources just to appease a section of the fandom. Secondly, that being said I disagree with having Zack and Aerith involved in the Lifestream Sequence myself. Maybe they could be outside keeping Sephiroth from intervening, but outside of that I'd rather they not be in there. The core of the Lifestream Sequence is centered entirely on Tifa and Cloud only. It is literally Cloud pulling Tifa into his subconscious mind; revealing his innermost feelings and thoughts, it's about their shared past and foggy memories, it shows what they mean to each other, and as such the effect Tifa has on Cloud as a whole as the only person who's known Cloud since the beginning. As much as I love Aerith and Zack they just don't have any place in there because they haven't known Cloud that long so they can't help the same way, and moreso the memories are all shared between Cloud and Tifa it's just as much for Tifa herself as it is for Cloud. As far as Aerith's real death being revealed there I also don't want that I'd rather that come after maybe the party revisits the Forgotten Capital or whatever they wanna do with it I personally believe it should be afterward or maybe even before but not during. That's just how I feel about it though

@@Step43099 Yeah but didn’t they get death threats from Tifa fans just for not having her in the trailers enough? Like I probably would rethink a few things if my life was being threatened by lunatic fans lol. But yeah I really think it would be cool if they had Zach and Aerith there though, like what do you think is gonna happen? Zach is being set up to be there fs imo. Like what else is he gonna do he isn’t coming back to life. The only reason I say that is because Nomura had said last year in December that anyone who dies in OG isn’t coming back so that’s why I don’t think he will rejoin the party in Clouds place in base reality as a lot of people think. I think a lot of people romanticize the OG ls sequence like you said but I think that’s a matter of perspective. It’s about Cloud regaining his memories and finding out who he truly is right? It doesn’t have to be a romantic scene like that we can have other people there as well and it still be amazing! Also seems like they already cleared up Tifas foggy memories in the Gongaga ls sequence. I never played OG as I mentioned before but I’ve read up on it and watched some clips from it and it doesn’t seem like Cloud pulls her into his mind on his own to share his intimate memories with her, it seems like they fall in to the lifestream on accident, and a lot of folks say Aerith protected them and used this accident as a opportunity to guide Tifa to Clouds consciousness and *Aerith* pulled Tifa into Clouds mind to help piece him back together. So I don’t think it’s too far fetched if Aerith showed up. But I also don’t think it’s supposed to be a romance scene either why not have Clouds absolute closest friends all help him discover who he is isn’t that beautiful 🤷🏻♀️ Also one last thing I gotta say it and I’m not saying this to be weird but I actually think it’s strange when people say Tifa knows Cloud better than anyone. It’s stated in Traces of Two Pasts that Tifa and Cloud played together as babies but after like the age of 6-8 ish they completely quit hanging out, even if they had a crush on each other from afar for a couple years, they haven’t played together since they were 6 and now they’re in their 20’s. So to me, that’s like telling me the person who knows me best is the kid I played with in elementary school, but then grew apart in middle school but we still went to high school together but didn’t talk. Then we graduated and grew up and I see that person in my adult life, and someone tries to tell me that this guy knows me better than anyone because we had once played together on the playground in the 2nd grade. I can’t get on board with that. Tifa even tells Cloud she doesn’t know him very well in the cat quest in Neibleheim. They both agree they don’t know each other well and then agree to decide to get to know each other better now to make up for lost time. Which is sweet.

Saw some of your convos on twitter and came by just to drop my two cents. Even as someone who "ships" Cloud and Tifa or is at the very least invested in the relationship, I feel like the LS can absolutely have Cloud confront the deaths of Zack and Aerith. In fact, I think this idea of Cloud thinking that he saved Aerith is directly tied to the soldier persona which comes crashing down at the Northern Crater. Ending of this game made me feel like the "real Cloud" has been completely suppressed (most evident by the lack of conversation/comfort towards Tifa after Aerith's death). The breaking of the soldier persona has already begun hence the crack in the sky and how much he is suppressing the truth. I completely understand why some are against the idea and are protective of the scene as many do want it changed just for "anti Tifa" purposes. However, the way you presented it is super interesting and can enhance the bond between Cloud and Tifa in a way we really haven't seen before! I have the utmost confidence in the devs to get it right.

I think some of it is being unable to accept things will not go exactly the same as the OG. Nothing significant, but I myself don't see putting those two scenes in the LSS as a significant change, just touching on the new mysteries like what's going on with Cloud blocking out the scene with Aerith, & moving the Zack scene from the Shinra Manor basement in OG to the LSS because it could only be viewed after the LSS in the OG anyways & I think would fit better there since it wont be an optional scene anymore & it fits discovering the truth.

....As for the water scene where Cloud puts Aerith down, It's questionable whether we are even going to get this i say. Red also asks "Is it our Destiny to defy Destiny?" Which turned out to be yes. So I wouldnt worry about it. Devs have repeated over & over that no matter what is introduced the OG events will continue to happen. Some people think it's a sequel without that context & rightly so I guess.
