I was a Glenview teen obsessed with the NSL shortly after it shut down. Around 1967-68 I walked much of the Skokie Valley route and got great exterior and interior photos of the abandoned Highwood office building and shops. Around that time I found a phone number for the line and called. A man, identifying himself as the line’s president answered the phone. I asked him why he was still around several years after the line’s closure. He replied that it takes years to fully close a railroad because there’s so much paperwork. I asked him why the line couldn’t be resurrected and his reply was short: not enough people to make the line profitable. I wonder if that would be a different story today!

Very nicely done and I hope it brings good revenue to the museum. Glad someone saw fit to completely re-invision those South Shore cars into something besides relics.

Man the 90s seem like a different world now. Some things haven't changed though, like those huge LDH bundles on the front bumper! Great video, even if it was a little chompy.

That's a C- model Ford, one of the most popular mid size truck chassis for that period. Wondering what date this was filmed.

I remember seeing those types of rigs in Chicago in 97. As an 8 year old I found all of those trucks very interesting. I remember Chicago was one of the fire departments where you could see several active apparatus still using the Mars lights. Which I wonder why did the Econoline 350 ambulances use the single Mars light above the cab? Was that outdated in the 90s? Perhaps even late 80s? I saw that type of ambulance in 97 and it looked strange to me also.

I worked at EMD in final test and paint as a warehouse man in 1971 to 73. I remember the room upstairs in the main building where they had the toy train displays outside of Personnel where my dad worked for 32 years until he retired. Got to watch in the main bay assembly line as the completed the base and then used the huge overhead cranes to flip over the base before attaching the cab. What a giant factory to work in! I remember working overtime in transmission department and electrical cabinet assembly and the huge cables that conducted the power.
