One of my first, and favorite, games for my Amiga 500. Sadly, while the framerate increases with faster machines, so does the time scale.

It definitely deserves a "Well, you tried!" nod. All things considered, I think I prefer Gloom Deluxe.

Gloom wins, hands down!
@SomeOrangeCat6 күн бұрын
@@LemonTubeAmiga I would put Gloom Deluxe next to games like Rise of the Triad and Blake Stone. Not as technically advanced as Doom, but that fun factor is there.

I played a copied disk of this for hours in the 90s without the manual and just a few half-remembered tips from my mate at school. I'm amazed that I managed to get a ship off the planet but I could never figure out the combat Lucky I found this so easy too, the exact foggy memory of the game I was looking for by searching "amiga game space ship building" Thanks for making a video about it!

I have played it again today on WinUAE, and I've remembered the ultimate cheat/glitch: you must position your character right under the net and jump, making wall, an you can just let the ball hit the ground, just make sure to continue to jump and be sure that you are "on the same line" with the ball. Every time the ball rebound and the point goes to you ;) 😄

That ugly green color is wasting it lol I loved that kind of games back in the days. I can still play but I got lazier xD I just started to play with Godot that's how I end up here (studying the basics). All those things I couldn't do in the 90s, now maybe I can, it's much easier ^^

If I remember right, you can hold the line defensively with a few planets until a new type of drive tech becomes available, and then you can fly straight to the enemy homeworld.

There are so many flaws I should have corrected (and so much I could have added)! One ant should really only ever occupy it's own pixel, but tons of ants can be on the same place at once. It was also never intended to hold both buttons at once.
@LemonTubeAmiga25 күн бұрын
Hey, thanks Mark! And thanks for leaving a comment on my video. You did a great job and nothing to feel ashamed about. If you can imagine a modern game, with park benches and hotel furniture to eat, the game could so easily be on modern platforms, just by dragging a finger over the screen. People love collect and multiply games, like Katarami, so with that in mind I'd say it is a timeless classic and a masterpiece. Probably just needed better scenery, like Hovver Bovver mixed with Command and Conquer, and you have a perfect battle/skirmish game. Or virus vs anti-virus game. etc. etc.

The most fascinating thing in this part of computing history is how everything is interwoven. People and companies moving around freely, Commodore, Atari, Apple and Microsoft. Mix this dokumentation with "Pirates of Silicon Valley" and you get one giant computer inventing orgy :D

Any idea how to beat mission 12 for the Zeld? The one were you have to hold out for 20 minutes? I can't pull it off. The furthest I get is to the Radar; then I get overwhelmed.
@LemonTubeAmigaАй бұрын
Not sure if I remember exactly. If you bunch up your forces and attack everything directly, I think the base might take punishment but it will leave maybe 2 tanks by the end of the onslaught. I think in some missions, it's a good idea to build a second base, because the enemy will only attack the first base. I'm fairly sure you have to sacrifice your first base eventually, and build in the corner instead?

Stand Fast is always, without exception, the best formation to choose, as your units will cause damage to the approaching enemy units in those couple seconds before they charge into you without suffering any on their own.

Some of these i recognise! I remember playing Breed and Oblivion loads. I used to buy so much PD early on, much cheaper than full priced games. I think many were like 50p or something, some places allowed you to send them disks and pay a smaller fee from what i recall. I used to send off boxes of 50 blank disks and a bunch of money and they'd send me all the latest releases they got. Most of it was garbage of course but a few gems hidden in there like Atoms and some Star Trek game we played to death. Ahh the memories.

What is PD?
@terrydaktyllus13202 ай бұрын
It stands for "Public Domain". It was essentially a forerunner to "Shareware" that you had later on in the early years of the PC. PD software could mean "Freeware" like, say, all Amiga demos and animations but could include games and utilities. This was before the days of the Internet so some individuals and organisations used to release PD disks that you could buy from libraries - one of the best known ranges of PD disks were the "Fred Fish" disks, but there were many others across the globe. When the Internet finally started "Aminet" became an online repository for PD software.

The inspiration for this video came from a book I bought last week called The Ultimate Guide to Amiga PD Games; which I think was written in 2014, and I wrote a few reviews for it. Going through the book, I noted down several games which I had not heard of or played, from A up to I. And then the last game I threw in at the end, which I spotted in the book. Looking over the footage, I notice I got to Level 2 with the Fighting Warriors game, so maybe it is a progressive challenge?
