You can tell he is very subconscious about the trick and magic overall as he incorporated the word "friends" into his routine. Either that was done intentionally or from his not being to confident in the trick and using psychology to get the benefit of the doubt from people watching. If you're someone's friend you wouldnt embarrass them or make them look foolish.

The most clever person to solve a cube of course is its designer.

The first cube didn't look randomised at all, it obviously was just a couple of turns from being resolved.
