When I was growing up the main room at the front of the house we called the living room. It was where the nicest furniture was, and it had a piano in place of a TV, but when we got our first PC in the mid 90's it was the room we placed it in. That was the room in which my parents entertained guests, and also where the Christmas tree was placed and where we exchanged gifts every Christmas morning. The large open room at the back of the house we called the family room. That was where we spent our evenings, and the furniture wasn't as nice and would get beat up and have to be replaced every few years. It was where the TV and only VCR in the house was.

Neither! Ceramic tiles for me, always. I lived in Spain and Jordan for a few years, and both had hot summers and cool winters and both my apartments had ceramic tile floors. Coming from the UK I was sceptical about them as I'd always lived with carpets (homely!) and occasionally wood floors (easily damaged finish) - but my experience was that tiles are lovely and cool underfoot in summer and surprisingly mild underfoot in winter; they are also extremely durable and easy to clean, nowhere for nasty bugs and allergens to hide and you can get tiles that are both attractive and slip-resistant. I have now lived in the far east for 6 years and had new tiles installed throughout my house, never an issue with them and I could never go back to carpets or wooden flooring. However I haven't experienced tiles on stairs in the single storey houses I've lived in, but I'm guessing slip-proof tiles could be fitted that could harmonise with the adjacent floor areas. Cheers.

Very good summary

I painted my pool 4 years ago with 2 coats of Zeron Bikini Blue. Looked amazing the first two years then started to loose its luster and is now chalky looking. Now at the end of the 4th summer I'm researching longer lasting epoxy paints to do it again in the spring. I wont buy Zeron again as it said it lasts up to 8 years, maybe if you don't mind it looking like crap after the first 2-3 years.
