People. Her face is deeply in make up to look like that. it doesn't depend on her costume colors

I love my true autumn colours. I mean sunflower yellow looks amazing and is so vibrant seeming. It’s still challenging to get exactly true autumn shades sometimes and therefore pair them. Aubergine is not in atm and its one of my best shades :(

Well because movies aren't necessarily meamt to make actors look good. But also i think that the original alice is always portrait in blue AND it was that she was dead. Alice is for/about a little sick girl. Like really sick. Her decent into wonderland was her last beautiful moment and escape from reality. Tim Burton is also famous for his "sickly" looking character Disign. No matter the medium or movie. Thats just his style.

It’s a Tim Burton movie. The point is that there’s something off about her. There’s your answer

Also, the original alice wears blue. It’s the character. Not everything is a color story of personal growth

I think it could be two things. Burton's film usually have blues and washed out features so thats one. Another that is a personal one, is maybe to show her mind. Like she has poor mental health which could be the reason why she falls into Wonderland. He could be trying to show her as sick because the character mentally is.

Victorian ( late Victorian early Edwardian in this movie ) part of the beauty standards was to look pale and frail, add to that the Tim Burton visual signature of sickly washed out characters and the fact that blue has been Alice’s signature color since the animated movie and boom, this what you get and it doesn’t go much deeper than that.

The story emphasizes that Alice is kept awake by dreams every night , so it makes sense that she should look tired and white.

Not only is it Tim Burton where, as literally everyone in this comment section is saying, his work is meant to be visually off putting, but she is also Alice Alice was always wearing a blue dress in the original, it is her color, the characters color, whether it looks good on the actress or not

I just thought it had to do with the suggestion of drugs aka her ‘trip’ to wonderland. If it happened then it probably will happen again that’s just what I personally thought

Hollywood makes so many mistakes. Johnny Depp doing a British accent in any of his roles is terrible. It's so fake and that's why I can't watch any of his movies

She's supposed to look ill....its literally her storyline in this movie that she has chronic insomnia since childhood and she's not in a situation where she's getting the proper healthcare due to her neglectful family.

Not only does it make sense because it’s made by Tim Burton but she’s been sleep deprived since a child most likely meaning she was likely ill often

As a millennial I cringe a little looking at those outfits because...I was there as a teenager lol. I think most of Lorelai's outfits would look a lot better if she wore one size up, especially in the casual styles. Skintight can make us FNs look bulkier than we are 🤷

This is really interesting to me because I would have 100% said I have broad shoulders, due to being very muscular in that area, but all the style elements you described here look so much better on me than their counterparts. So perhaps my bone structure is narrow after all, despite the muscle? 🤔

A lot of people don’t realise this but during the time period that this film was set in looking sick was actually considered quite fashionable. The Victorian’s were obsessed with looking like they had tuberculosis, as weird as that is but still. Women back then sought after a very pale complexion for a number of reasons, however, if we are to talk about historical accuracy I would say that the look alice was given is actually fairly spot on.

I agree on the classic aspect but I think she doesn't have a medium jawline, I think it's kind of sharp and not moderate. I think in pride and prejudice she had a bit more of a baby face but now it's a bit more of a well defined jawline. But yes, I agree that she's definitely a classic girl.

If we want to overthink it, If you're right that the color blues represent her lack of belonging, then the fact that the blue never goes away means that Alice's arc isn't about figuring out where she belongs. Instead, at the end of the movie when she switches to a brighter blue, it's about how she embraces that she doesn't belong, she never will belong. She doesnt need to. Not belonging or fitting in is her strength. Very consistent with the film
