This is Stern Propaganda - beware. I earned a Stern MBA in Marketing 1989 at the time when Stern NYU was supposedly the #1 MBA Program in the USA with first year MBA grads earning on average over $100,000 their first year out. NOT ME! I didn't get a job and didn't even get a job interview through Stern NYU - the one promising Advertising Job lead here in Chicago I made on my own was sabotaged by extremely political Woke Stern women TAs, and the career counselors. Stern NYU MBA is extremely Woke Leftist political , the NYU alumni magazine is unreadable Woke Leftist DEI Politics from cover to cover. Also, the actual Stern MBA Program is very very theoretical - case study , macro economics that might be of use for some Presidential senior economics advisor or on the Board of the Reserve banking cartel - not practical for some 25 year intelligent young man trying to get his first real business job. Also, the finance, accounting, statistics is super high level math using mainframe computer commands and that HP Hewlett Packard computer that doesn't have an "=" sign. Does any working in banking, investment management ever use mainframe computer programing or that (*#&$@ HP calculator in a paying real job? It's like the high level math I had to learn at Vanderbilt BA - Calculus, trigonometry, Fortran computer programing. Totally worthless in the real world. 2 years after I earned this #($&*@ Stern NYU MBA degree I had to move back in with my parents and took a minimum wage job working the Kindo's computer center. I was very happy for the job. Maybe if you are a Chinese national and the Chi Com government will pay your full Stern NYU tuition it might work out OK as the NYY alumni magazine is always bragging about the latest East Indian Chinese, Asian department head. Sure, if this is your ticket out of a 3rd world country and your entry in to the West, USA it might work OK for you. But if you are a CIS Midwestern American young man like I was in 1988, don't do it. Earning an MBA from Stern New York University was the worst mistake I ever made in my life. Horrible.

Hi Jeremy, great video - I have a few M7 interviews coming up next week and learned the interview portion isn't to be overly fretted about nor perfect. However, would you be able to clarify why 50% of interviewees still fail this (assuming they're not weird/arrogant/unable to answer their questions or maintain a conversation) section? Unless I am mistaken and there really are (~50%) more than I think who fit the bad interview "criteria" that made it pass the 1st profile assessment phase. Thank you in advance!
@mbaMission
@mbaMission 17 күн бұрын
I agree that applicants don't need to be "perfect" but instead need to be real. Your interviewer isn't looking for sound bites but is trying to get to know you - your values, experiences, purpose. So, I wouldn't fret too much; instead, know your own story backward and forward and be ready to speak thoughtfully about your life and choices. That said, I am not sure that 50% "fail" their interviews - interviews are a piece of the puzzle and some programs admit ~50% of the applicants they interview, but if you don't get in, it doesn't necessarily mean that it came down to something you said... some gaff. Obviously, if you really blow your interview you can damage your chances, but most applicants perform well and then their applications are reconsidered by the adcom, which has to consider applicants on a relative basis, and also needs to consider overall class composition.

There really isn't an overall "best" program, or even one that is "better" than another. However, there may be a program that is better for YOU. I'd recommend chatting with one of our consultants to discuss your background and goals and they can recommend a program for you from there: www.mbamission.com/consult/

I’m someone that wants to become an entrepreneur but isn’t sure about what exactly, how would I go about figuring that out?
@mbaMission
@mbaMission Ай бұрын
Entrepreneurship is very broad, so think about what you are passionate about, and then do some research on that area. I suggest talking to entrepreneurs about their experiences, ideally ones who share your passion. Many hopeful entrepreneurs first work for a startup to gain experience for a few years, before starting their own company. One way to gain the experience necessary to join, or found, a startup, is to gain relevant skills in an MBA program by learning from that school's entrepreneurial resources and networking with like-minded students and faculty.

You mentioned that we should put our context, short and long-term goals in the first essay. However, Kellogg already asks these two things in the 'Employment History' section, with 2 fields for industry motivations and goals respectively. Wouldn't it be repetitive to write similar stories/reasons/goals in the first essay?
@mbaMission
@mbaMission 2 ай бұрын
You are right that there should be overlap between this Employment History section and the first essay. The information should definitely be consistent. The first essay should bring your career story and goals to life and paint a picture for your reader, and you have a 450-word essay to do that. The Employment History section is just a very short section where your goals and motivations should be very straightforward, without any context.

This doesn’t tell us anything other than the painfully obvious fact of running away from the score - 1) take it again 2) lower your school choice 3) change the exam…. I’m surprised so many consultants are avoiding how to actually mitigate the weak scores using other aspects of your app to compensate for it.

Thanks for your comment, but, as I note in the video, this is one of 8 lessons within this onTrack module. In the module itself, we discuss the interplay between GPA and testing. In doing so, we discuss at length how an individual with lower test scores, might develop an alternate transcript, pursue certifications or designations, rely more heavily on their academics, and pursue test waivers. We also discuss how one might explain their low GMAT or GPA in our optional essay module and provide several examples of those optional essays. You are only seeing one piece of a much larger puzzle - onTrack is so comprehensive. I agree with you entirely - there is a bigger picture!
