wasn't CF Martin making guitars 50+ years prior to Orville Gibson though? Pretty sure we can thank CF Martin for the singer/songwriter and American Folk music birth.

Yeah good for Gibson. Talk that archtop up some more Mark! Tell us more about how historic and important it is. Those things are Garbage! 🤣 If you want to attempt to downplay the genius of C.F. Martin's innovativeness, maybe try finding a better example of your product, to use as your selling point. Not that archtop you pulled out. If it was laying on a table at a yard sale, you'd be lucky to get $100 for it. The person who finally came along, and paid you $100 for it, would get it home, tune it up, strum it for a minute, and quickly realize, he overpayed for it. Lol. How many people do see strumming an archtop acoustic these days? What acoustic guitar is being played today, by probably 98% of guitarists? It wouldnt be a flat top, X-braced Martin, or some other brand, like Gibson for example, who stole the greatest innovation in the history of the acoustic guitar, the X bracing, would it??? Today, you can order a new Martin online, without playing it, and rest assured its going to sound great. If you order a Gibson online today, without playing it, you are a m*ron! 😂 It better be one you went to the store and played it first. Because for every good sounding Gibson acoustic today, there are at least 9 more identical to it, that sound like they are made out of wet cardboard.

That arch top is nothing like arch tops today. It obviously is a lute type instrument, meaning that it does not have any tail piece and the bridge is attached like must flat tops. Most arch top guitars have tail pieces and floating bridges. The instruments with tail pieces and floating bridges receive energy from the strings to the sound board through only one force vector where as instruments with attached bridges receive energy from the strings through two force vectors. A very important distinction!

"The first thing we invented was the hum, then we came up with whistling and combined the two to invent all music thereafter. Eventually we started snapping our fingers and people copied that and came up with derivative instruments called drums and percussion...." I tried to watch this, to give this guy another chance but I find Mark far too annoying to be able to complete the video. By his telling he and Orville sat around inventing musical instruments and genres all the time. If he was half as cool as he thinks he is he would be a cool MFr.

Don't get me wrong I ❤ Gibson guitars. But got to keep it real. Ain't nothing like a Fender neck. Leo invented the solid body electric guitar, and Jimi showed us how to play them. The history of the evolution of the solid body electric guitar is interesting. Gibson blew Leo Fender off in the beginning. When they finely accepted they had a problem, and countered with the Les Paul. The first year they were still stuck in the past. First year Les Paul had a trapise bridge. Leo naled it the first time after all the R&D.

Great! Fortunately, I have the second Star guitar built in ‘79, but the body was the first cut, bought from painted by Karl Sandoval and painted red with a gorgeous gold metal flake that sparkle from under the red nitrocellulose paint. / Randy Rhodes played it (I took some classical guitar lessons from him (RIP Randy) and then commissioned Karl to build his iconic polka dot Fkying V! // George Lynch, a friend who coincidentally had input into the Star design, has the first Star finished, painted white, but its body was the second one cut. /// We’ve sat across from each other and swapped each other’s guitars, noting the similarities and that each had a small difference which we found more desirable in the other guitar. They both have the binding created by cutting into the edges and filled with phenolic resin epoxy, if memory serves. Mine was the prototype in which the experimental resin epoxy bubbled in some spots of the binding. Thus Wayne Charvel, as I understand his policy, called it a defect or second, and gave it away, and other bodies, mostly Strats and Teles, to his employee Karl. No problem with me, Karl filled those small cavities with Bondo, lol, and painted the binding edges in gold. //// Both George’s and my Star have a Power Pot preamp, which we agreed that although it boosts the midrange, attenuates the upper frequencies. But I don’t see the preamp switch, nor the little cover plate for the 9v battery on the guitar presented here. ///// *So I believe our two Stars are yet more +rare than the batch promoted in this video! Further, I would argue that the green paint scheme presented here is not nearly as aesthetically pleasing as either my or George’s Stars.
