I unfortunately have to have this surgery as well soon (going to talk to a surgeon in the next few days). This is honestly the first surgery I will need in my life, and hopefully the only one/last one. These were helpful tips so I know roughly to expect and the notebook idea is a good one (something I would have forgotten and thus would have forogtten things to ask or information they give me). Hoping mine goes well as well and recovery is fast (considering it is the holiday season pretty soon and I'd like to have this done and be mostly recovered by then, but Iguess at the same time, I don't want to rush things as well, but do want to get the surgery at least done as soon as possible as the idea of cancer always scares me, even though they say that PTC is one of the "better" cancers to have if you're going to have cancer since the prognosis is generally good for the majority of cases, but it's still something that can be unsettling for many, especially considering that cancers can come back even if you remove the organ in question.)

4 years later fatigue an brain fog had been my biggest battles. Plus, a couple of times a month, I get what I call the thyroid cold whereby vI feel so internally cold my only remedy is to lay on an electric blanket for 3 hours. Until I thaw out. I have not identified the trigger that sets it off. On doing comprehensive research, I found lions mane mushroom supplements dissolved for me the brain fog.

My faint scar sits nicely in a natural line on my neck. I chose not to tell most of my friends about my partial thyroidectomy, it was a cancer diagnosis and I preferred to keep this to myself. None of them have noticed my scar. Obviously initially I kept my scar covered with scarves, or polo neck sweaters.

I had mine total thyroidectomy a week ago, I was nervous before going to the OR, but the Anesthesia team and the doctors, nurse even my surgeon were really nice, they made me feel relax and before you know it I was awake, it was a lot of pain waking up and swallowing even talking but thank God I felt so much better after a few days. I still feel tired but I can talk and eat well now, but there is still a slight pain on the incision. Your video really helped.

Unfortunately my scar is the least of my issue. The lack of health 25 years is the main issue. For the first few years I was fine but the older I get the loss of a thyroid is very great at least for me a wwoman.Always a battle with clueless doctors and endocrinologists, should never have let them remove and obliterate it with poisoning my body.Guinea pigs we are to them..

It took a few weeks before I was able to work out again, and I felt that I still fought fatigue for a few months.

This is very helpful. My surgery is the first Friday in October. I have to have my left thyroid taken out 4cm however, my right side has two very tiny nodules and the surgeon said it’s up to me whether I want a total thyroidectomy. Has anybody on this situation of having only half of their thyroid removed, and what was their experience if they had the same situation as myself? I would imagine I would have to continue monitoring it. And if it does have to be removed later, is this a more difficult surgery the second time? I’m rather nervous, because leaving it up to me to decide to do a total thyroidectomy seems daunting I don’t have the wisdom or knowledge to know what to expect, and how to make this decision. Thank you so much and thank you for your amazing video. It really gave me a lot of information of what to expect.

Amazing news I need to share with everyone a month ago I was going in for my preop appointment which they like to do a month before surgery. Before I left for my appointment, I called a friend that had some thyroid issues I wanted to get some advice from her as well, and just find out what her experience was. I’m so glad I made the call. She had the exact same issues I had the only difference was her thyroid nodule was on the right side, same size as mine on the left side. She told me about this doctor that does radio frequency ablation RFA This is done for large nodules that are not cancerous. I called this doctor (while I was in the parking lot ready to go in for my preop ) and the office that does RFA scheduled me the following week. I then went into my preop appointment for surgery, I mentioned this RFA procedure to the physicians assistant, and she immediately started nodding her head. she said they were going to get a technician/doctor to do this procedure in a few months she said that she would do the same thing. I went to the doctor the following week that did the RFA procedure he did an ultrasound and and since I was having no issues with swallowing breathing etc. he said that he would wait and see if I did develop symptoms but he saw no reason to do anything at the present time! Until then we would monitor it for a year and return to make sure everything was OK also because there was a test done to make sure that I have no chance of cancerous cells that I should just continue to monitor it. If you are thinking of having thyroid surgery please find a technician somewhere that does RFA And have a consultation it may save you unnecessary surgery!
