This stuff works exactly as it says The downside is that it has memory like no other which any long time fisherman can tell you leads to some nearly infuriating scenarios This is all I’m using from now on since getting more experience with it

Now try it with a 300 dollar St Croix…and watch it snap. I used fiberglass rods when i was a kid and they caught fish just fine. Graphite brings some sensitivity to the table but for me they’re not worth it as ive usually got a trigger finger on the line anyway. The original ugly stick …before the gx2 was a superior rod IMO. I now use Eagle Claw feather lights and could t be happier. Wuppin stick is good…they seem to be made the same as the old ugly sticks and work good for Salmon.

I love triple fish leader material. The standard line, not so much. I have been thoroughly impressed by Izor Line. First at the knot contest at Day at the Docks in San Diego where, during the knot contest, my knot held and the main line broke at 62lbs on a 50lb test. I bought some of their 30lb platinum leader material and was super impressed at how well it held up to a school of Spanish mackerel on the gulf coast.

I bought one of these from the Salvation Army for $15 about 4 years ago. I was lucky enough get one with a tank. Fixed it up, and it's been serving as my main camping stove all this time. Later, I got a 428. The 426D runs with fewer quirks the it. It ain't as pretty, but the 426D is a work horse.

Omnia is terrible to cast with compared to any other fishing line I've ever used. It's stiff and doesn't want to come off the reel easily. So I personally don't care how strong it is or isn't,if you can't get a good cast out of it ,it's not worth the two dollars and fifty cents.

I’m looking at getting one. I just gave the kid my other ugly stick and I’m looking for a new catfish pole. Idk if I want this one or the carbon one putting my vintage 888 pro staff on it spooled with 25lb line. I’m going 1 piece 7 foot though. I never have been a fan of two pieces unless I’m rucking it

Use a #11 o-ring (9/16" id. x 3/4" od. @ 3/16" thick) to replace the old fuel cap seal. Also remember to never depressurize tank while it's still hot with this older fuel cap type and the light up instructions are embossed on the tank. Your priming pump need more oil (mineral oil) to keep seal working so it will properly pressurize.

Good review. I was raised on this stuff. My dad realized that 8 year old's that loved catching big pike in Michigan were hard (and expensive) on tackle. He gave me a Zebco 33 combo with 20 pound Omnifex, a steel leader and a big red & white dardeviel copy spoon. No more problems, and I caught a ton of pike.
@tripplebeards34276 ай бұрын
I think I bought poundage they’ve offered just because it’s so cheap and it’s fun to try! I caught a 8 pound northern on 6 pound test and I caught a 23 pound freshwater drum on 8 pound. I just make sure my drag is set light enough. I also use the 20, 30, and 50 pound for leader material. I also line a lot of my cheap reels that I borrow out with the stuff.

What are your thoughts on the soft tip on this rod? For me it seems to be a love/ hate relationship. While it does help with faking out the fish. It does become a pain for casting at the same time because of that soft tip. It makes the rod too sluggish to get a good launch.
@TapiaOutdoors10 ай бұрын
Which rod ? I think the daiwa has the softest tip out of the three
@independentthinker.27310 ай бұрын
@@TapiaOutdoors Have you tried the ugly stik white rods for comparison. The catfish special specifications say that it's a moderate action with medium heavy power. With the white ones those are medium heavy power with a moderate fast tip. Seems like I have more control over my cast with this rod than the catfish special.
@TapiaOutdoors10 ай бұрын
@@independentthinker.273 I have not tried the white catfish rod.yes anything over 3oz it feels out of the sweet spot for casting with the catfish special.
@independentthinker.27310 ай бұрын
@@TapiaOutdoors depending on the rod since all rods do vary even if they are the exact same model, I found the sweet spot for the catfish special is 2 oz. Anything beyond that it's not even enjoyable. I've used that rod at the 8-ft length for both bank fishing and pier fishing. 8 ft helps with not having to lean up to the rail to avoid getting hung up below on the moorings and makes it easier to lift them over it too. I like the 8-ft version of the white rods. But the handles too short for that length. Compared the 7 ft and the foot of the white rods to find out that they used the same length of rear grip on both. Bad idea for the eight foot. Should have added two more inches to it like they did with the catfish special. That shorter handle makes it a beast to throw. But I do like the slimmer handle on the white ones. Why they make the rear grip so thick on the orange ones I don't understand.

@TheBootyWrangler17 күн бұрын
How the hell are you breaking ANY 20lb line on 10lb bass??? I fight catfish much larger than bass sometimes it happens on some 6-10lb test mono and I make it happen. You’re horsing the fish way too much if you’ve lost several on 20lb. This gotta be an exaggerated comment or something.
@TheBootyWrangler17 күн бұрын
Why are you fighting bass with the drag set higher than 20lb?
