This train once had a route that went through many small Northern NSW towns, through Byron Bay, Lismore, then Casino. It then joined the normal schedule line that is used today. This was one of the most spectacular train rides in respect to scenery that I have ever taken. This line is now defunct, after being shut and then being used by a private tourist train for some years. So it goes without saying that Brisbane to Casino pales in comparison to those wonderful years. What a shame to not be able to sit in the Railway Hotel at Byron Bay as the XPT pulls in to the platform which the hotel sits on.

I'm a little disappointed that Australia doesn't seem to have an equivalent to the Coast Starlight train that goes from Seattle to Los Angeles, and goes right on the coast for a few hours after it leaves Los Angeles. (the best thing is actually to start in San Diego and ride Surfliner to Los Angeles, to see a bit more of the pacific coast!) But, alas, that's the accident of history. There are plenty of cruises at sea where one can see that beautiful Australian coast. The Indian Pacific and Ghan both seem to have a lot of beautiful scenery, just not the sea. 🙂

This is not correct. The Brisbane to Sydney Train never ran through Byron Bay. The line you are referring to is the NSW North Coast line, which left the main lin line at Casino and Terminated at Murwillimbah in NSW. You were able to travel from Murwillimbah to Brisbane via Coach but this was not the main line to Brisbane from Sydney.

The XPT does not have USB chargers on seats and no on board Wi-fi. So bring a SIM card enabled phone or device and a 100% charged power bank (at least 15000 mAh or greater).

I remember when I did the trip I did have 2 power banks and some tv shows and movies to watch on me and TBH the only place you going to find power plugs is in the sleeping cars. The SIM service speed on the train for both parts between BNE, SYD and MEL was not good and not have service at all except for when we’re in the towns where there was service but this was with my old provider and i remember the eftpos machine not working for both bits and had to resort to cash only which was bugger especially for me as I don’t carry Cash these days (please note since the trip I have changed SIM provider)

I've done the south variant of Sydney to Melbourne but not north.I did it overnight both ways.Shame they can't do one to Adelaide from Sydney and Melbourne as the only services are effectively tourist trains.Thus linking up the 4 biggest cities of eastern Australia.... sorry Perth you're just too far!

Only one train daily to connect two of the big cities in Australia, running on the busy east coast. It is so cheap, and not profitable at all, but it seldom gets crowded. Also most of my friends don't even know this train. Since all of the airline companies are getting so unreliable. Taking a train is not a bad choice. At least you probably will not lose your important luggage. A good thing is, the train stops at some stations for quite a few minutes. Passengers can get off the train and have a walk on the platform. Which means, "Oh yeah, I have been to Coffs Harbour. Oh Yeah, I have been to New Castle ......"😆😁 Can I ask a question please. NSW Rail says the maximum luggage size we can bring on the train is 50×60×70cm. My big suitcase is 75cm tall. Do you think they will be very strict on the size? Are the luggage racks near the train doors wide enough? Thx.

Well I did try to check my bag in but it a little over but they did say I can take it on the train which was nice but at the time of Year when I traveled the airfares were high but I have not lost my checked luggage yet but in my opinion there should be a second train but slots over The Merivale Bridge is little bit hard at the moment but hopefully it will be future

@@andrews_trains_125 Most domestic Airlines' luggage allowance is very limited. Taking a train to Sydney takes long time but still better than driving to Sydney. Also driving in Sydney is a nightmare. Traffic jam starts from New Castle.

Its 2 Services in each direction a day Between Sydney and Brisbane but while one service is a Train for Sydney to Brisbane route the other service is Sydney to Casino with a Coach between Casion and Brisbane due to a lack of capacity on the Brisbane Train Network hopefully when Cross River Rail opens it can go back to 2 Full Train Services

I hope the Sydney to Melbourne trip gets new trains soon. So there is a real difference between 1st Class & Economy. ATM they are the same.

Hope so too but I wished they never built them overseas. The real difference between the class are more recline and more leg room in first and that’s about it nothing else it’s the standard on all Australian daylight trains (except the Overland) not to have food complimentary in top tier classes and don’t know what you mean about a ATM

Hi and thanks fr the video. There are a lot of issues that over time should be addressed. Write down what you are going to comment on before adding to the video. You have repeated several phases in the same sentence in many instances. See your transcript for the huge amount of factual errors ie Mooloolaba instead of Mullumbimby and breaks in sentences. Also My biggest pet hate. There is no such word as ANYWAYS. It is ANYWAY. This is the first of your videos I have looked at, I hope the rest are pleasing to watch.

Note I did pronounce the First stop of Kyogle wrong of which I do apologise for and honestly it was probably my first time of trying pronounce it right and tbh I did get it wrong and hopefully and lesson for future vids heading through the station for next I head through there

At $262 you can get the NSW 14 day Discovery Pass for $232 or $300 (1st class). It's less than double that for 6 month so the good choice if you like train trips.

Yeah but I was only going one way on this trip on the train but how will I use for the rest of the time also because I don’t live done in NSW nor Sydney and the travel options are limited from Brisbane
