Not sure if you read that hope your vision returned, i was a very good poet/artist the meningitis made me stop being able to do any of it... I could fill books and feel now i cant anymore, i write 4 lines and just feel its worthless and stupid based on what i did before, it took a part of me that was my sensitive part now im a robot and hard, not bad as such but not what i know i was different before....

I want you to know that you are not alone in all this. You can reach out to the Meningitis Research Foundation (which we are a part of), who support anyone affected by meningitis. So sorry for your loss. I am just starting to hunt around the internet for what to expect after surviving bacterial meningitis. Luckily, I survived. Mine started as an ear infection after a cold. I was really lucky that my wife recognized that something was really wrong and took me to the hospital 12/22/22. Christmas morning, I was getting a surgery to help get rid of some of the infection in my skull. A few days later I was sent home with a PICC line to finish 3 weeks of IV antibiotics. New Years eve I had my first seizure. The next morning the seizures got way worse, I was headed back to the hospital, although I don't remember that. About a week later I was back home. I finished the round of IV antibiotics and withing a day I was really heading down hill. That evening I was headed back to the hospital. Back on IV antibiotics for another 10 weeks and just switched to oral antibiotics about 2 weeks ago. So far so good as far as not getting really sick again. The meningitis is not gone though. The doctors say at least 6 months of oral antibiotics, maybe more.

Although this is generally fatal, my little brother contracted it and ended up living and is perfectly healthy now. But, when he was sick, he was very sick. He was hospitalized for weeks and even when he came home, he was hooked up to an IV for weeks after. Thank god for the amazing staff who helped him.

I had bacterial meningitis as a kid, I'm lucky my mom was a nurse and recognized my symptoms were meningitis right away. I had a terrible headache, with nausea and vomiting. My back was locked up for weeks where I couldn't stand straight. I'm convinced this illness has long term effects, but usa doesn't devote nearly as much research to this as the uk.

Hi Peachy Keene, thanks so much for sharing your story. So glad to read that your symptoms were identified and that you were treated quickly. If you would like to read more about after effects we have listed them on our website here: www.comomeningitis.org/after-effects and you're right, for some survivors there are long-term effects. Please do feel free to get in touch with us at [email protected] if you would like to talk about the disease, your experiences, or if you would like to connect with an organisation near you. Have a good day!

Are there vaccines with dead viruses in it or only living elixirs?
@COMOmeningitis
@COMOmeningitis 3 жыл бұрын
Hi James, apologies for missing your comment! That really depends on the vaccine; some active ingredients in a vaccine are made of live harmless germs, some of germs that have been killed, or carefully selected parts of the germ. You can learn more by visiting our website's Vaccines Q&A resource here: www.comomeningitis.org/prevention Thanks for your question
