Of course so temps same as adults tbf I always keep them together till they take first feed so once shed out I try feeding as a group if one strikes I then remove into separate tub then but only if they then finish the feed if they come off it and leave I put back with the group. Hope this helps take care keep smiling

At that age its pretty simple if it's over 18 inches it's gotta be a female as males max out around this size also if you look through I also have a video on this too hope this helps take care and keep smiling

Hi. I have a pair of sand boas. I would like to breed them and am looking for information. How old and what weight should a female be. How old should a male be to make it work. I'm from Poland and I don't understand what you're saying in the video. Sorry and greetings👊😉😘🐍🐍🐍
@homegrownherps978

Thats awesome to hear and no that's fine I understand my accent is a little hard to get lol so average female is over 300g and males of over 70g age is more a general as it all goes by the weight when there at that age if you get me
@przemo030889
@przemo030889 Жыл бұрын
@@homegrownherps978 Is age important for admission? Age of the female, age of the male? the minimum weight of a female is 300g, right? the minimum weight of a male is 70g. I understand that they need to be wintered for about 8 weeks at a temperature of 10 degrees. I am looking for information abroad because here only general information. Eryx breeders probably don't even exist. I bred Heterodons for the first time. 6 healthy pieces came out of the eggs. Now it's time for a sand boa 💪❤️
@homegrownherps978
@homegrownherps978 Жыл бұрын
@przemo030889 so males at least 2 years old as long as at 70g+ and females around 3 years as long as 300g+ personally I have never cycled my sand boas I.e brumation or wintering as you call it I just leave them to it around winter time as find the ambient air temperature is enough to cycle them as such

I have a question do sand Boas need a heat pad like most snakes and a UVB bulb
@homegrownherps978
@homegrownherps978 Жыл бұрын
Great question so it all depends upon how the setup is with regards to Hest pads if your using such as glass tank with over head heat bulb then yes a pad would possibly help with the heat gradient and also if in tubs again pads are great. Also uv is a subject that has many different answers some say no but others have shown and proven that they thrive better with it. I have had no issues for years with my sand boas being without it but do also know many that keep them with it and also have great success it all boils down to how much you want to really mimic the most natural environment and have found uv has helped people with some stubborn feeders or even shedding issues. Hope this helps take care and keep smiling

Hello! This video is quite old, but I thought I would ask on here just in case. I've started using the method you've showed to sex babies (finger along tail to feel the emipeens) for my past 3 litters (before larger breeders would just buy out my clutches so I wouldn't bother trying to check lol), but when I talked to a much more experienced breeder (than me), he said that this wasn't a reliable method for KSBs due to them having large anal glands, so that the "pops" could be anal glands instead of emipeens. Since it's been a few years since you've posted this video, do you still think it's still a valid method? Have you found a different method since then? I'm just genuinely curious :0
@homegrownherps978
@homegrownherps978 Жыл бұрын
Each to their own I think tbf but I have found this and visual tends to be enough but if I'm super unsure I will gently pop too but in the years of breeding them I have only ever had 1 customer come back to say they are wrong sex.

Great video. Very helpful. I have an aggressive female sand boa. Should I try breeding her? Or should I replace her? I bought her for breeding. Just learning how to do this. Do they tend to be aggressive with males when they are aggressive in general? She always tries to get away when I try to touch her, and tries to strike.
@homegrownherps978
@homegrownherps978 Жыл бұрын
It doesn't necessarily mean she will be mean with the male. Some just have a fight or flight response to handling especially when first picking from the sand as being burrowing species they don't know what's grabbing them. Usually once out they calm. The female that sadly killed my one male years back wasn't a aggressive snake normally its just a rare flook that happens sometimes with breeding these. Just when pairing try to get clear tub tip by head for first couple meets till she used to seeing him then remove and observe for hour or so. Then remove her and next week do again but leave them few hours and so on each week till your able to leave over night and then a day or two and shouldn't have any issues. Good luck with your breeding and hop back sometime to let us know how you got on.

No disrespect intended to our experts across the pond, but how refreshing to view a British video! Thanks for this! My only criticism (which I hope doesn't offend you) is - please cut the music. I'm hard of hearing, but not completely deaf (I also have dreadful tinnitus) so in such a valuable and educational video, the music is quite off-putting and frankly, pointless.
