Agree-Blockbuster is a bit overrated as a 90s brand. The real 90s magic was in local video stores whose names I can’t even remember

Will likely pick this up! Always enjoyed the game videos a lot, but only fairly recently started hunting around for more after a friend sent me Pathfinder TCG core set. I had not realized there were so many options for solo games these days.

I think that Chucky from Child’s Play was based off of two dolls. Of course there was the doll My Buddy but the talking doll Cricket had a little brother named Corky. I think the two dolls were both were both based off of The Good Guy dolls in the movie.

I think this was a very underrated movie. I really liked it a lot. I loved the father - son relationship depicted in the movie between the son, Will Halloway (Vidal Peterson), and his elderly fragile father, Charles Halloway (Jason Robards). I thought it was very poignant and heart-tugging - especially the scenes where Will & Jim are hiding in the gutter from Mr. Dark and Will reaches through the gutter screen to hold his father's comforting hand, plus in the Hall of Mirrors where Charles smashes through the mirror and reaches out to pull Will from the water - in the process atoning for his inability to pull a then four year old Will out of a dangerous current eight years prior at the Indigo River and instead having to watch someone else do it for him. Jonathan Pryce was also great as Mr. Dark, a truly evil mysterious man with magical powers - a probable acolyte of the devil- who together with others in his evil carnival feed on the lusts, desires, regrets, and greed of his victims. Granting them their wishes but with an evil twist and taking their souls to join his carnival in the process. I think the acting by the young child actors, Vidal Peterson and Shawn Carson was great and very believable. "Something Wicked this Way Comes" is a really good movie in my humble opinion with good acting and casting that is spot on. The theme, tone, and mood of the movie keeps in line with that of the book. In fact, I like the movie better than the book. I totally agree with the late movie critic Roger Ebert who gave it a high rating and said "this is a horror film with elegance". If you love Ray Bradbury's work you will love this movie. I make sure to watch the movie every October just before Halloween.

I watched the movie on repeat back then~ 🤣🥰💖 I loved the cartoon series as well on cartoon network. The theme song kind of freaked me out a few times but thought the cartoon series was great. Watched it every time it aired on cartoon network back then. I have the cartoon series on dvd now the complete series. Also 6 copies of Beetlejuice movie on dvd. I wore out 2 dvd copies to where they started skipping~ 🤣 Never gets old~ 🤷♀️✌️

Back before my parents got HBO full time, I would look forward to their occasional preview weeks, where you would get HBO free for that time. So many movies I grew up on came from those times - Hooper, Spring Break, Beastmaster, Hollywood Knights. The greatest day in my childhood was when we got the converter box for HBO and we had it full time. I miss the glory days of HBO.

The two shows I remembered most from this block were Voltron and Jem. The former was my introduction to anime long before I knew what it was called, and it had transforming robots and giant monsters which were always cool. The latter I actively avoided at the time because it was a "girl's cartoon." I finally watched it about 20 years later and realized just how much of an awesome show I missed out on as a kid.

Here's an interesting part: You can also hear it as "green storm", or as "brain needle". Part of what causes the confusion, I suspect, is that lo-fi effect the voice is run through.

My local video store was called Silver Screen it even had a distinct cleaning smell that I can still smell to this day. Each movie had a round key ring tag hung from the bottom of the shelf if it was in stock and they would look up your name in an index card box and write down the number off the key tag. And that was how far back I remember movie rentals being. They had their horror movie section in a far back room and I loved going in there and looking at all the front covers. I remember when Friday the 13th part 6 came out they had Jason in a coffin displayed in the room and it scared the crap outta me.

My buddy growing up had terrible parents who would let us rent anything as long as we did not bother them. We would rent the horror film with the best cover and enjoy our Friday night. The local store in Arvada would rent to us regardless of rating and full well knowing there was no chance we were 18...or even close to it. Amazing memories and now 25-30 years later...I have a massive collection of nothing but 80s horror (mostly VHS) to remind me of the great times and a passion for those titles that started all those years ago thanks to mom and pop video stores.

So cool you still have all those films! Used to love the vhs covers so much.
