Police are not your friends they are thugs with badges and can't be trusted

I went to jail in March for accidentally making a rolling stop at a stop sign (I zoned out on the way home from work because I was exhausted) and got arrested because I had a traffic ticket I couldn't pay. I was compliant and very respectful the entire arrest/booking process. Cops were still vile to me. I was already having a horrible time mentally so I couldn't eat anything. I cried most of the time because I felt like I had finally gotten my life together just to f-ck it up. They DO NOT care about your mental health. I never ate a single bite of food, didn't drink a drop of water, didn't shower. Just sat in my cell alone the WHOLE TIME and cried while people looked in and stared. I heard a CO say "yeah he doesn't really eat, just sits there and cries" followed by a laugh. I felt like an animal in a cage being taunted. At least one CO asked if I was okay and needed anything, but that was literally it. It's just you in there, no one cares. Longest hours of my life. Don't go. It's Hell.

This is unprofessional on the highest level that's not how to handle an autistic individual. Atleast they should have consulted with the mother/family and Gp as they're more familiar with his behaviour and triggers. 😢

1. Guards are not trained to give out meds. They are unable to just do whatever a prisoner is asking of them, even if they act out due to mental conditions. 2. They attempted to prevent further damage to the poor man by placing padding under his head, but it seems the damage had already been done. 3. Prisoners are stripped if they are under suicide watch to prevent them from concealing anything that could harm themselves. This is protocol. 4. Everything in prison takes time, protocols, movements of prisoners in/out of rooms, everything takes time and needs approval. It would be interesting to know exactly how long it took the guards to take him to medical. It is horrible to watch, but this type of stuff happens every day in prisons, if not worse, where guards directly kill people intentionally (i.e. leave prisoners in boiling hot showers) The guards spoke horribly but did not directly cause his death and padded rooms aren't always available. A very sad story, but by far not the worst case of negligence.

Why is he wearing a dress? And why wasn’t he given medical attention? How can people be so cruel? He needed help!! I’m so very sorry for his family and for what happened to him. If it were within my power to bring him back to his loved ones I would.

The police and the state don't like people with mental problems. But the state seems to consist almost 100% of people with mental health problems.

He was sick. He articulated his need in medicine. Why no one is educating police about mental health? He needed hospital, not police. Stating that the jail staff did nothing wrong and provided him appropriate care is a lie. Camera is proving otherwise. He begged for medicine - it was not provided in timely manner.

I was diagnosed with mild autism after being in law enforcement for 15 years. First, I want to say this young man was not treated correctly. He did tell them what he needed. But here is a warning to all people with autism: the world ain't gonna kiss your ass. We live in their planet, not our planet. Learn how to overcome your struggles because people who don't understand you should not be your victims and won't tolerate being so.

Everyone wants to point fingers as to why this happens. But fails to do anything about it to change to the laws and hold people accountable for their actions. But this is why those with problems with their minds never say anything or go for help as this is the perfect example of NO I'M NOT GOING!!!!. As the Americans are not ready or not able or capable of dealing with people who are not like them. Who are artistic people, people who are genius but have mentality issues. As there's no schools or even the right technology to teach the profession to everyone in the right field to do what is right and follow through, but that is not a guarantee because of the society we live in and how people LOOK down on others who have genius minds but have other mentality issues and don't fit in the society image or groups. As that is sad. And really, those who dont accept those with creative minds and are artistic have no clue as to what they are missing out.

He is a gay man. This story is missing a lot. The name of the attacker is telling. Sounds like he encountered either one of his countrymen or an individual, possibly an Islamist, for whom being gay would be punishable by death. Poor reporting.

These jail staff don't see the people that came into the jail as humans. They treat them like an Animal that is annoying. No one wants to be in jail or prison and they all have background reason for it. They need to learn how to show what kindness and treating right is like and see how that can make a difference for a person.
