You are right, don't let homeless people live with you, because you really don't know what type of issue a homeless person may have and they will do their very best to hide and lie about their liabilities. They hide schizophrenia, depression, bipolar, arson, sexual assault, illegal drug addiction, alcohol addiction, extortion, prostitution, child porn, gambling, property theft, ID theft, gang connections, squatters rights issues, murder and the real reasons why they were homeless in the first place. You really don't know, what you're going to get. It happened to me. I allowed a homeless recently widowed man and his 3 year old daughter stay me in Oct of 2023, mainly because of the 3 year old girl. My mission was to help the father (Bob)(which is not his real name) get back on his feet and become independent. Bob and I had an arrangement that Bob could stay at my house with no rent, if Bob did work on my house since he as a contractor. I would give Bob the money for the materials for the construction and the materials would never did arrive by delivery. Also I did all of the cooking, cleaning a large house, shopping and paid for all the food, plus found and paid for weekly daycare for Bob's child and I also helped to take care of the child. Bob and his daughter were both slobs and the daughter was undisciplined. Some work was done on my house, however the main work on my house never got started, because the materials for it never showed up. Yet I did paid Bob for it and there was a written contract for that work. Until 3 months later when a different babysitter for only the weekend, who was Bob's friend phoned me, to tell me that that Bob had stole valuables from my home. I think that babysitter told me about the theft, because Bob did not pay her pay for the weekend of babysitting That same day, while Bob and his daughter where out visiting relatives, I searched my house and discovered about $6,000 dollars of items missing and I also found a lot of drugs and crack cocaine in Bob's locked room and crack cocaine hidden all over my basement. Bob was good a playing the victim and had too many excuses why he could not do the foot work to be a better father, to get his driver's license renewed, to get an apartment, to stop blaming his girlfriends and losing one of his jobs. I called the police and texted Bob not to come back to my house and changed the locks and got additional security cams after I found out that Bob tampered with the old security cams with video of the Bob disabling one of the cameras on the opposite side of my property. And of course I found out after Bob left, that the materials for repairing my house was never ordered, Bob just took the money. I also found out that the reason why Bob was in a homeless in the first place. Bob told me that he was living at his mother's apartment and had to leave because it was an over 55 complex and he was 47. What Bob told me was a lie , because his cousin told me that they were all evicted from his mother's apartment because the Bob stole his mother's rent money 4 times without her knowing about it until it was too late. I was very lucky because, Bob was on probation and I had proof of Bob's illegal drugs and the theft was a direct violation of Bob's probation. If Bob was not on probation or stole or had drugs in my house, I am sure that Bob would have tried that squatter's rights stuff, because Bob would have been considered "A tenant at will" so this could have dragged out in court for months for a formal eviction. So Bob went straight to jail for 6 months and his 3 year old daughter went into foster care. After 30 days based on the laws of my state, I sent all of Bob's important documents and some of Bob's belonging to Bob's mothers place and everything else I donated to Good Will. I was also lucky that Bob's 3 year old daughter did not get into his drugs or a drug deal gone wrong at my house. The saddest part of this story is that the 3 year old daughter lost her mother, from what I know now was an overdose and now 3 year old daughter has lost her father. I have seen Bob panhandling at my local Walmart and friends have told me that Bob is living in a homeless tent encampment in the woods behind the Walmart and Bob is now addicted to meth. Don't let anyone stay with you including some family. Only help from a distance, It will save you your sanity and peace of mind. Reply
