So your telling me I could get to mars without DLC but a person with it can’t get to the moon?

When attempting to orbit try to burn in the direction of travel (prograde) at the apoapsis to maximise efficiency and try to keep your earth apoapsis at around 30 to 35km to save fuel on normal mode. The rocket you built here has ample delta-V to reach the moon and back so the design is good, I would strap like 2 rcs thrusters on it though to make landing slightly easier. When you get an encounter with the moon try to get the periapsis to be fairly low, at around 20 or 30km to get a slightly more efficient burn, and always burn opposite of the direction of travel (retrograde) at the periapsis to slow yourself down and achieve a low moon orbit before landing, what you did in the video is you accelerated towards the moon and gained velocity instead of trying to remove it, which is why you crashed. Also when preparing for re entry to Earth keep your periapsis at around 10km to slow yourself down via aerobraking without burning up.

What you did when you got to the moons atmosphere is very wrong, you see, you pointed your rocket directly to the moon, that isnt good. Instead, when you get to the moons atmosphere you have to point your rocket in the opposite direction of where you are going so you could get an orbit around the moon and THEN get ready to land. Also ion engines are weak and don't help with landing

pay attention to ur velocity. it was at 2,000m/s thats way too fast. u need to slow down way way before. dont rush and dont time warp. burn retrograde to slow urself to like 50 m/s land at like 5-10 m/s

to raise the periapsis or lowest point of ur orbit. u should burn prograde (the direction u r heading) while ur near or at the apoapsis (the highest point of orbit) and vice versa. if u want to lower ur apoapsis, burn retrogade (face away from heading) while ur near or at the periapsis. hope that made sense

I haven’t played SFS in a while but you really don’t need a big rocket to get to the moon. Idk if sfs has a Δv indicator yet or if it still doesn’t, but just make something that can get to a 10-15km orbit around the moon then just have a lander that can safely touch down, And you should be able to get back to earth with that single lander, get a 10km orbit around moon after leaving and then transfer back to earth I haven’t played sfs in a long time, KSP now ,I might have forgotten a few things

first go to orbit that meen going out of the atmosphere and then activating the second stage flate relative to the surface of earth then when you are in orbit click on the moon and set too navigate to then wait for transfere widow and match your velocity with the one set on the window put your trajectory on sphere of influence of the moon at 20 km then timewarp too the periapsis (lowest point of orbit) and go backward of where your going once your in lunar orbit decent toward the moon and keep your velocity under 5m/s once your landed ancent to at least a 100 km above the moon and put your rocket flat relative to the moon once your again in lunar orbit click on earth then navigate to and match the number on the transfere window and time warp to earth reenter land and you got this! hope that could help good luck
